Australia will stand up to China to defend peace, liberal values and the rule of law: Julie Bishop

Who care if that Aussy lady said it or not. We are not delusional to trust Australia. Let stick to being a business partner. Australia has what we need and we got what Australia needs. That it. It is a simple relationship.

.
I fully believe that Julie Bishop said "stand up" and is now backtracking.

This new Australian government is a bunch of bogan buffoons who belong in a trailer park and have no clue about international diplomacy. They rode in on a wave of parochial, trailer park slogans centered on bigotry, xenophobia, climate change skepticism and capitalizing on the utter disarray of the opposition Labor party.

The ONLY reason this Australian government gets away with its incompetence is because Australia is blessed with natural resources and is a rich country.

Please read posts and links carefully. The Chinese newspaper was quoting an interview that Bishop gave to an Australian newspaper(Fairfax media) the line that they reported she said "stand up to China" is not a direct quote of what she actually said and they confirm this in the link i just posted.

Fairfax media deserves the lion's share of the blame. Their title was, "Australia will stand up to China to defend peace, liberal values and the rule of law: Julie Bishop". In Chinese, when a title follows the formula, "Person X: Statement Y", statement Y is assumed to be either a direct quotation, or a paraphrase that scrupulously approximates their true meaning, without any room for inference or interpretation. For the longest time, I assumed this to be true of English-language media too, but Fairfax's editorialized hackjob of a title makes me wonder.

I've noticed that Fairfax media has a frequent tendency to shit-stir and sensationalize. They're no better than the Murdoch media they despise.

So no, she did not say it. You should read carefully instead of trying to spread misinformation and pretend everything is a huge conspiracy.

I think it's rather you who should read carefully what I wrote and stop being a smartarse. Nowhere did I say anything that could be interpreted as a conspiracy.

Really? Chinese media is famous as liar and propaganda tool, but intentional misquoting a representative of a foreign country is that we haven't seen before.

I don't think it was intentional. The Australian newspaper didn't make it clear that what they wrote wasn't a direct quote of what she said.

Well you can believe what ever you want, but Fairfax has confirmed that she didn't actually say that.

And here we go again with your random hyperbolic criticism of Australia's new government that you dish up in every thread regarding Australia. *yawn.*

It was explained to you twice that she DID NOT say it and it was the newspapers misquote. Twice you refused to accept the fact and instead insisted she said it pretending its all a massive conspiracy.

I never knew that China and Australia had problems. Or is it Japan effect?

. .
More or less our partnership with the Aussies had some effect, i premise.
You are a great country, nihonjin-san. Our deep respect for you to emerge as a strong independent power pole of the world.

We want to see Japan as an indecent power from American policies and emerge as an alternative to the existing institutions.

The more axis we have the better it is for developing countries to trade and prosper. No hegemony anymore.

I've just enjoyed the World Cup, while interestingly, you, as German, even was busy with posting quite a lot here, instead of watching World Cup. Can I ask the other German friend here, is it normal? BTW, during the World Cup, Chinese newspapers posted something like "Korea and Japan made Asia lose face", while here, Vietnamese said"Chinese media is famous as liar and propaganda tool" OMG...

@Götterdämmerung : Congratulation for German football term!

Namaste.

Thank you for your vote of confidence @Tshering22 . As citizens of this international community and as supporters of the rule of law and civilized decorum, its always important for us to appreciate mechanisms that support growth, legal processes, stability, and the freedom of navigation for all respective parties

Because it couldn't possibly be a Chinese newspaper making things up could it? LOL.
According to what the Australian PM said, can I also understand"Japanese army also showed a quite professional skill in Darwin Port, and he showed the respect to that?

Of course they both (Australia and Japan) showed respect for their militaries' duties in the last war. It was reiterated during Abe's visit to Australia and his speech to their Parliament that both sides showed respect for both their armed forces' duties. They highlighted how "two bitter enemies are now the best of friends".

First, there was never a relationship with Australia to begin with. Second, there is no problem between us. We are business partner. Third, what Australia do with Japan is none of our business. We're here to buy their natural resources.

Do Australians really want to lose their biggest trade partner?

What will happen to their $50 Billion LNG gas deal?

Wrong choice of words at wrong time!

The criticism is not hyperbolic. It reflects the incompetence of the Abbot administration.

Many countries around the world have mutual conflicts. Australia doesn't need to stick its nose everywhere. Australia should have friendly relations with all countries and avoid taking sides. Let them sort out their own differences.

The US is a global hyperpower and needs to project its power everywhere. Australia is not a hyperpower or a superpower. The Abbot govt. should be looking out for Australia's long term interests, which lie with friendly relations with all regional countries, rather than playing America's little sheriff in the region.
