Within hours of bombers targeting Israeli embassy workers in Delhi and Tbilisi, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directly blamed Iran — an accusation which, if verified, would represent the first confirmed retaliation by Tehran for a series of recent assassinations of its atomic scientists aimed apparently at sabotaging its contentious nuclear programme.

Iran has blamed those attacks on Israel, and repeatedly vowed to avenge them. In statements issued in Tehran and Delhi today, however, it rejected the Israeli charges as the “Zionist regime’s psychological war against Iran”.

In a statement, Netanyahu said the attack in Delhi and the attempted bombing in the capital of Georgia fell in with the recent pattern of “attempts to attack Israeli citizens and Jews in a number of places — Azerbaijan, Thailand and others... In all those cases, the elements behind these attacks were Iran and its protege Hezbollah”.

The attack in Delhi today — carried out allegedly by a biker who pulled up next to the Israeli embassy vehicle and attached a magnetic object to it seconds before the explosion — was strikingly similar to at least three attacks in Iran on Iranian nuclear physicists in recent months. The defused bomb in Tbilisi too had been attached by a magnet to an Israeli embassy vehicle.

In a widely discussed article in The New York Times Magazine last month, journalist and author Ronen Bergman described the assassinations of Majid Shahriari and Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan, both senior figures in the Iranian nuclear establishment, who were killed after motorcyclists attached ‘limpet mines’ or ‘magnet bombs’ to their cars before speeding away.

A third scientist, Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani, was targeted similarly, but he escaped. Bergman suggested that Israel and its intelligence agency Mossad were behind the attacks. At least five scientists closely associated with Iran’s nuclear programme have been killed under mysterious circumstances since 2007.

Today’s attack was unlike any other terrorist strike seen so far in India. The ‘limpet mine’ is a new innovation, and this is the first time that India has become victim of an internationally coordinated terrorist act. Indian investigators were probing the possibility of the involvement of foreign intelligence agencies in the attack.

“This is a terror attack against Israel and its diplomats. At this point we are not discussing how it happened but you have already seen the statement made by Netanyahu. Iran’s proxy Hezbollah has been carrying out attacks against Israeli interests,” David Goldferb, spokesperson at the Israeli embassy in Delhi, said.

Mike Herzog, a retired Israeli general and a former top aide to Israeli defence minister Ehud Barak, quoted at length in Bergman’s article, told AP, “There have been all kinds of mysterious things happening in Iran, and it could be an Iranian counterattack. It’s no secret that Iran uses Hezbollah globally, and Hezbollah has the capacity to carry out attacks around the globe.”

If Israeli accusations are substantiated, this would be the first time that Hezbollah, an anti-Israel Shia militant group operating mainly out of Lebanon, would have got involved in a terrorist attack on Indian soil. Investigators said it was too early to ascertain the extent of Hezbollah’s involvement, if at all.
Avigdor Lieberman, Israel’s foreign minister, said the “attacks against Israeli embassies abroad... just means that the state of Israel and its citizens face a daily threat of terror, both physical and diplomatic... We know exactly who is responsible for the attack and who planned it, and we’re not going to take it lying down.”

Monday’s terror attack comes weeks after External Affairs Minister S M Krishna’s visit to Israel, the first by an Indian foreign minister in over a decade. A press release from the Israeli embassy stressed that Krishna had, during the visit, “reaffirmed the bond between the two countries and retierated India’s commitment to the future”.

Good job Iran!

As I said in another thread, look who would benefit from damaging Iran-Indian relationships, and you'll see who is behind the hit.

Iran vowed revenge... I believe it is very possible Iran was behind these recent attacks, as I said the Mossad was likely behind the deaths of the scientists. But I have no proof for any of this. It's pure conjecture.

I have to admit a kind of ghoulish admiration for the methodology. The motorcycle is like a fighter plane, very maneuverable and able to get through dense traffic, or even escape across country. The bomb - buy a pair of powerful neodymium magnets online, have a ring and string safety to the timer. The rear passenger slaps it on the car with his finger in the ring. As the bike speeds away, the cable is pulled, starting the timer. Very clever and devilish.

Iran could actually do a better job than this, and they could find a better target, and a better place, not its best customers soil.

If anything, this bombing looks more like Mossad's (or MEK) red-flag job. Think about it: Israel and US benefits the most, nobody died, just some injured, done in Mossad/MEK style. What Iran gains? Nothing. Israel/US gains a lot.

chogy : there were two articles saying it was Mossad from your own country:
one from a journalist who is pro Israel and having many (he says it) contacts in the Israeli intelligence
one from cia experts saying to a US newspaper that they know they work with MeK

both articles are available in this forum

I guess there are three possibilities, we'll know the truth about it or not:
1/ Iran used stupid guys to make it look like not professionnal
2/ Mek was doing it , using the experience and material they got during their work with Mossad
i don't believe Mossad itself could be behind it as the Israeli intelligence never worked against its own representatives or doing this kind of job
3/ false flag: another country is using and paying Iranians , a country which doesn't care about Israel then but hates Iran too

well i trust our Indians friends. i wish they really investigate well.

and by the way, Khamenei is so sick minded... everything is possible . but it is not because everything is possible that it occured ;)

The other question is who benefits if the culprits weren't caught?

How does Israel benefit if their agent is caught?

If he is an agent of Mossad what I'd expect to see next is for him to be handed over to Israeli custody (promptly if possible), where he can be jailed according to headlines, and then disappear from the face of the earth, no new headlines concerning him, with cosmetic surgery and a wheelchair. His life as an agent would be over, thats for sure.

That or to die promptly while in another government's custody.

I'd be shocked if this was done by Iran's government, simply too incompetent. Then again its not exactly without precedent elsewhere, though certainly a less serious situation (Russian spies in the US). I'd be similarly shocked if this was done by Mossad, as it would be a rather terrible blow to the Israeli confidence in their government and revoke all that they stand for.

If the methods are similar it also adds credit to the Idea that these are rogue Iranian elements, perhaps looking to foment war between Iran and Israel.

Who ever is hitting Israeli diplomats (which are illegal as they are a occupation force) is doing a good job. Hope to see more attacks on zionist targets. Payback is a *****

#3 - which country that could be?

since when are diplomats and embassies an occupation force? They are a rather well established system whose base concept goes back for thousands of years as a commonly accepted way of doing things by civilized countries.
