KARACHI: In a fresh wave of target killings, at least five people were gunned down in different areas of the city around midnight on Sunday.

Police said three activists of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (formerly proscribed Sipah-i-Sahaba) came under fire in Sector 11-E of New Karachi. They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Police said Ansar, his brother Nabeel and Noman were sitting near a teashop when they were attacked by gunmen who were on a motorbike. Karachi West DIG Sultan Khawaja told Dawn that initial information suggested that the three were activists of the proscribed Sipah-i-Sahaba.

An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was gunned down in F.B. Area and another in Korangi. According to police, Farhan, 28, was attacked in the Yousaf Plaza area. The attackers who were on a motorbike escaped.

Earlier, Dilawar Masih, 30, was killed in Korangi when he was sitting outside his house. His killers also were on a motorcycle. The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem.—Staff Reporter

These killings looks like mafia wars, where each criminal family is targeting their rivals. Only difference here is that instead of criminal syndicates, we have MQM, Sipah-i-Sahaba, Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, etc.

WTF is this every few days alot of people are killed and then Rehman Malik goes there and big claims are made of reconciliation and again after a few days the killing spree starts ... this cycle has been going on and on .

.
Does this have anything to do with the assassination of the MQM leader in UK?

.

harsh examples need to start being made...you would think that given the patterns and outbreaks of violence, any display of arms would have been met with iron fist

rangers should be given shoot on site orders; and citizens should be warned well in advance that whatsoever ANY display or discharge of firearms will be met with an iron fist.

is it really so hard for these nincompoops to stop this tit for tat violence? It's very bad for business.

wild hooligans; idiots...

KARACHI: Leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Dr Farooq Sattar on Monday rejected claims that his party was behind the recent incidents of target killings in Karachi.

Addressing a press conference at Nine Zero, Sattar termed the killings as a conspiracy and said that the MQM was not taking revenge for the murder of Dr Imran Farooq by targeting people.

The MQM leader blamed the government and specially the provincial home ministry for the violence. He demanded that President Zardari take notice of the killings and stop the unrest in the city.

Sattar said that terrorists have been given a free hand to kill innocent citizens. There was no one to stop these terrorists, he added.

He urged that elements involved in the terror activates should be apprehended and hoped that the killers of Dr Farooq would be nabbed soon.—DawnNews

2. rangers should be given shoot on site orders
3. citizens should be warned well in advance that whatsoever ANY display or discharge of firearms (or any other weapons) will be met with an iron fist
