Assam would never be allowed to be a part of Bangladesh and that the interests of the people of the state would be looked after, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday said. Gogoi's comment followed VHP international general secretary Praveen Togadia's assertion on Sunday that Assam would soon be a part of greater Bangladesh if people did not start a democratic movement to free it from encroachment by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

"We will never allow Assam to turn into Bangladesh as claimed by Praveen Togadia. We all will fight against any move to make Assam a part of Bangladesh," Gogoi said at a function to launch a book on him here.

Asserting he was a secularist, Gogoi said he wanted people of all religions to fight against illegal foreigners.

If thats would be the case then they would have been deported long ago.... assam is a under developed n poor region... there is no reason bd people will go at that place illegally.... try to accept the real fact number of muslim in india is not a mare 13% which your government is parroting for decades...

get a life.... these are nothing just publicity stunt.... to collect some vote...

by the way assam, west bengal and orissa were always part of kingdom of bengal n i personally believe should have been part of bangladesh...

It is a fact that there are almost 2 million illegal BD immigrants living in India. India is doing its best to deport these migrants into BD.
