Asian Batik triditional craft

Why did you bold that statement ?, it is not true that Malaysian can claim Batik since Batik is originated in Java from Javanese. It is a simple logic.

Malaysian has similar roots like people living in Sumatra like me. Sumatran people dont have Batik culture. I know it. If there is Malaysian batik, it must be coming from Javanese who become Malaysian and they are many there. They cannot claim Batik as them, similar like Indonesia cannot claim Chinese culture as ours despite there are Chinese Indonesian spreading the culture here.

The use of Batik on Friday also dont have anything to do with the victory. We just want to popularize here. So instead of using Western style dress during working in office, we want to use Batik as well as formal dress for working. Batik usually only use during special event like wedding and celebration.

Batik is originated from Java, Indonesia, and every body should acknowledge it and if Malaysia want to have their own Batik, I also support it but claiming Batik as originated from Malaysia is really weird.
Why don't you lecture your countrymen trying to claim China's batik as yours?

Lol, this is about UNESCO recognition.

Malaysia never denied it originally came from Indonesia, only our own design and tradition.

So calm down n fret not, the Chinese are not claiming such tribal art for themselves-it's non-existent in Han chinese culture and is undeniably Indonesian

the chinese already have their own embroidery art- its found on the traditional clothes they wear- and in fact, the term for the 'chinese'- in chinese- '华‘ - stems from the 'grandeur' of such embroidered beauty on the clothes the Han chinese wear

Sure sure. Please tell that to xinhua's editor, if not. Well it's in my best interest that china put these Batik videos in one of their "friendship" videos

There is no China's batik since batik is Indonesian originated name, similar like the word "Katana" is Japanese originated name. If China has similar technic so dont call it as Batik, since Batik has distinctive style. When I see Chinese proclaimed Batik, I dont see it as Batik. They should name it based on their own Chinese words.

If after we got UNESCO recognition, we try to popularize it so it is a good action. Although not many wear it anymore on Friday, but at least Batik has become a dress that can be used for working/meeting.

Wrong, Katana is a sub group of japanese sword and the English do not need a loan word from the Japanese. English do no have an original word for wax dye so they used batik. The Chinese already have their own name 蜡染. if the Indonesia wanted to correct this problem, then Indonesian should pursue this with English speaking countries and UNESCO to correct this. Even UK uses the word batik for "african" batiks. Its just Indonesian are anti-Chinese and anti-Malaysian.

Do you acknowledge that Batik is Indonesian word ?

The technic maybe has some similarity, but the one called "Batik" has distinctive technic which is much superior since 16 century so this is why it is wrong to call other dress with drawing and color as Batik. I can see African called Batik or Chinese called Batik is different with Indonesian Batik. Similar like Katana, many nations can make swords and use relatively similar technic, but Katana looks different. Every nation can make a drawing in their dress, but Indonesian style drawing is different and its called Batik.

One website doesnt make your claim is true. Why dont use UNESCO definition ? There is no African Batik or Chinese Batik in UNESCO heritage.

Malaysia can still use the name Malaysia Batik in my opinion as they have relatively similar technic and pattern with original Batik from Indonesia. And Malaysian themselves are close to Indonesian people and as you said has acknowledge that Batik is from Indonesia.

Indonesian batik was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list in 2009, and has been internationally recognized as an historical fabric of human civilization. It is thought to be over 1000 years old, with historical evidence pointing to its use in parts of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Although the actual origins of batik are unknown, it is believed to have been transported to Asia by way of the Indian subcontinent. “Batik” is derived from an Indonesian-malay word, which is now often used as a generic term referring to the process of dyeing fabric. The process is traditionally performed on cotton and silk using a resist technique. This includes covering areas of cloth with a dye-resistant substance in order to prevent color absorption. Those areas not covered are able to absorb deep hues. Thus, the fabric is both durable and fade-resistant. Other batik methods also exist, such as the splash method, the screen printing process, and the hand-painting methods.

Go google search Indian Batik, African batik, Chinese Batik. Surely you can do that yourself. Lazy to screenshot.

Every nation can make a drawing in their dress, but Indonesian style drawing is different and its called Batik.
Go complain to UNESCO and English speaking nation and protest.

As I said there is no Chinese Batik and African Batik in UNESCO heritage. I will take back my words if UNESCO has Chinese Batik. I have google and NONE I find Chinese Batik or African Batik.

Because other countries yet to submit their own art and crafts as world heritage. If Indonesia doesn't like other people using the term "batik", they should protest to UNESCO and English countries since it is a catch all phrase.
