In a way, you're right. Since majority of Pakistanis are Muslim, their names are somehow know to the western due to a large number of Muslims living in their countries like Muhammad is the most common name for boys in UK while Aysha and Fatima are pretty common for girls and people in west are accustomed to listening them and are able to pronounce them. Ali is another common Pakistani/Muslim name.
But there are quite a few people who change their names to western names to become socially acceptable and they even drink and do all sorts of stuff to fit in. However the ratio such people is lesser in Pakistani community as compared to Indian community.
I have a nick name which my family gave me and it slipped out into my friends and they mostly used that to call me but once I established my business, I insist on using my official name in all the documents and conversations with clients, colleagues and business partners. Though friends tend to be an exception and you can't force them can you?

Personally I've no respect for those who take on western names.
But the thing is, many of them do it to climb the ladder and once they're there, they're in respectable positions.

Come here to Fordsburg a small suburb outside jburg; many operate as Indian restaurant; similarly many other countries i have been to also say Indian but are owned and operated by Pakistan people. Similarly many Japanese restaurants are owned by Koreans not Japanese - ironic is it not given the history?
