Pull the other one, lol. :D

This one is more typical: http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/866/chonn.png

Tanlixiang should recognize it because he is in this screenshot too. That particular user put on a Pakistani flag, but the name in his location ("Pork E Stan") gave away his identity immediately

These are all very recent, I only figured the idea of screenshotting these things a short while ago.

Lol, yeah that was pretty obvious.

But again, you can't judge all Indian people from what a few do. That would be unfair.

This isn't meant as a justification for what other Indians said, but in India "chink" itself isn't really considered racist. Lots of people use the world without malice to describe Chinese people. You have to look at the context to determine racism, like if they add "slant-eyed" or something before it.

he has been told that many times, but he likes to use it as some crutch . Its all the more hilarious because Chinese are considered extremely racists in the US. god's honest truth man- even the Chinese I have met say 'thats because they don't think about things like, is it racists of me to say that before they blurt out something..'

card sharp made a racists innuendo to me here too.. something to the effect of ' waddle your head and walk away' :D sometime back..

Well have I even ONCE said anything racist against Indians here?

The answer is no. So clearly I'm not judging all Indian people from these common experiences, but it is certainly a factor to consider.

Maybe you haven't, but other Chinese members have called Indians "slumdogs", "dark subhumans", etc.

My point is, it's not worth worrying about those people.

Its not used as a racist term. Thing is when our language "hindi" was developed, India was pretty much just one racial group. So there are absolutely no words for different races in Hindi language. For example:

Caucasian: Gora: Literally means White
Negroid: Kala: Literally means Black
Mongoloid: Chinky is used, cause "Chini" was the word for the people from China, but there are no words for other mongoloid people.

Its not racist at all in Indian sense, but in the western sense its racist. Either case Indians should avoid using the word.

Any evidence of that? Screenshots etc?

The "chink" thing is so common that the moderators have even put up a permanent notice about it, directed specifically at the Indian members of this forum. Link - > http://www.defence.pk/forums/announcements/36630-addressing-chinese-members.html

Anyway I don't consider it irrelevant at all. It is merely a symptom of a extensive underlying hostility, that is evident given the polls (Pew Global Research for a recent one), the Indian media, and yes my own personal interactions with Indians.

My conclusion is that individuals tend to get along. As individuals.

LOL really, these justifications are getting old.

In the screen shot above, the guy calls us "chink slit eyed faggots". I mean, come on.

I love the irony. :D

I remember a conversation around this here and again I think it was Chinese posters who lived in western worlds -even agreed that chinese are considered racisits but not because they intentionally are but because they are quick to say what they thinking . You are not from that area -perhaps you won't get it.

I agree that post was racist, and am not trying to justify that sorta posts. I was just talking about the word Chinky. When this word is used with other expletives it definitely becomes a racial slur. Its like if you call a black man a black man its fine but if you call him a black cu*t it becomes a racial slur. No offence intended to anyone.

That's bullcrap.

In both Urdu and Hindi, the proper word is cheena or cheeni. The version with 'k' or 'ku' instead of the i/a at the end is a derogatory variation, like 'fatso' or 'fatty' v/s 'fat'. If you are saying that the derogatory version has become common in India, that's unfortunate. Perhaps it's indicative of a general mindset.

That's similar to the word for blacks: kala (meaning black) is acceptable. The derogatory variation 'kaloo' or 'kulloo' is considered racist.

Buddy, I'm not stupid. I have ONLY EVER seen it used, when Indians are angry for some reason, and are trying to attack us.

Though I will bear that in mind, in case some Indian guy "accidentally" says that to my face in Hong Kong. It's not hard to tell when someone has made a genuine mistake and when someone is being very deliberate.

Can you please pull up some solid proof instead of your little anecdotal delusions. Thanks.
