Army plan induction of BrahMos with 'surgical strike' option

Every modern army has missile regiments so what even PA has many of them?with missiles that ACTUALLY WORK.Its good to know that one of indias russian missile works

:rofl:...Nice try to flame but if you believe that Indian missiles are dud so be it..Whatever keeps you happy...Though i wonder why people on other side of the border are investing so much in missile technology when their only adversary India has dud missiles....

.
I feel as though a better use of money and time would be on anti-missile defense. If India's doctrines continue (vis a vis, non-first strike) then true deterence should be put upon defending India, and not shooting missiles into other nations.

I'm interested in some sort of Patriot cruise missile that was used to knock down Scud missiles back in the 1991 war of America (and allies) against Iraq. If Pak wants to devote a lot of their GNP on missiles to fire at India, India should look at systems to shoot down those missiles. (And in a way, make Pak waste a lot of money on their programs)

If the BrahMos and other cruise missiles can complete this objective then they will be worth it. Firing off any missile into another country is an act of war, call it a surgical strike or not. India's 'deal' has been to defend their territory. (Not be aggressors on other people's land ... save for that whole Siachen Glacier thing)

Peace should be the goal ... but failing that, defending your home should be where it ends. When you reach out to strike someone, you leave yourselves open to injury. Try to punch someone, they could duck and use a knife to strike your brachieal brachial plexus and you bleed to death -- same thing with attacking another nation. look at USA vs. Middle East.

As you seem to be quite a missile man, I am sure you would agree that your views on Indian missiles being duds and Pakistani ones being effective are based on media reports of tests. And you would also know that the real test of capabilities is in a war scenario only. Nothing else matters. So until that day, we can think whatever we want about each other's missiles, it wont make a difference.

But for the sake of countless lives on both sides of the border, I hope such a day never arrives.

Then you say you are not flaming...Please understand the basic difference between India, Pak and for that matter china's defence procedures... In india we get to know each and every failure as well as success of our defence related programmes...I cannot say the same about my Pakistani and Chinese friends....So saying that all your missile works and indians are duds just falls flat...

if you wanna live with this that you are working on ICBM's and we are busy sleeping then i have no intention to break your bubble...Though i have this article for you...

India Inducts Agni-3 Missile - Defense News

So live with whatever you want to think and with all due respect this is my last reply to you on this topic....

Just out of curiosity who holds the decision to use cruise missiles in a war zone...The question might sound lame on the periphery but if you add the probability of suspicion weather the missile is a nulclear tipped missile vs a conventional then whole game can change....We might end up instigating a nuclear conflict out of nothing...What say???
even i am not sure but it would probably be a decision made at the command level.

you seem to ignore something called "deterrence"

what you suggest is that one must only use force in self defence.
but that entails violence. your opponent might be tempted to try his luck and stab you through watever defence you throw up
kind of a lose lose situation.

what most countries prefer is keeping a shotgun. if someone tries to come stab you, he knows that he will almost surely get his head blown off.

so the person will not come to stab you and you will not have to blow off someones head. win win for both sides.

Lol we do we sent our first satellite in 1990.:rofl::rofl::blah:

. .
with chinese help..and it completed its life long ago :azn: rest of the satellites were bought from different countries

Yeah we bought them from russia and israel and couldnt assemble them and then again we invited them and they assembled our indigenous satellites?lol:rofl:

I did not address deterrence at all, for a variety of reasons. I believe that deterrence is necessary -- and is also something that all major nations attempt to have. That said, having large stockpiles of "deterrence" is one military coup away from being on the path to MAD. It's almost too tempting for some people to overlook.

I'm really not a big fan of Nuclear war in South Asia.

http://www.defence.pk/forums/world-affairs/43065-nuclear-war-south-asia-must-avoided-all-costs.html

I think having a nuclear arsenal is necessary if other nations have them. Using them is ... something our world cannot bare.

India/Pakistan/anywhere needs to be able to deter other people from attacks/invasion. Nuclear programs will continue. I think repelling attacks may also be a noble goal as well.

How much clout and karma would a nation that is attacked by another with Nuclear arms gain, if the attacked nation is able to destroy the fired nuclear weapons in the air (and out of threat range) without firing a single nuke of their own in retaliation? That's the higher road that all nations should strive for, if our species is going to have have any chance at another 1,000 years on this planet.

Just out of curiosity who holds the decision to use cruise missiles in a war zone...

I think the directors general of military operations (DGMOs) has the power to use them.

The question might sound lame on the periphery but if you add the probability of suspicion weather the missile is a nulclear tipped missile vs a conventional then whole game can change....We might end up instigating a nuclear conflict out of nothing...What say???

After launch, BrahMos takes just less than 3 minutes to hit bullseye, leaving a very short time interval.

But the chances for such an event is marginal.Communication is a key in avoiding such an event and a appreciable level of effort has been put in by both the sides.

Communication measures can help defuse tensions during moments of crisis. They can also be employed on a more regular basis, as consultative mechanisms designed to allow states to ward off crises before they occur.

Military Hotlines:- After the1971 war, a dedicated communication link, or hotline, between the Pakistani and Indian generals was established. In December 1990, India and Pakistan agreed to reestablish this hotline. At the 1999 Lahore Summit, India and Pakistan agreed to review all existing hotlines and upgrade them.

Hotline between Prime Ministers:- The first hotline was installed in 1989 by Prime Ministers Benazir Bhutto and Rajiv Gandhi. At present such an arrangement does not exist but can be activated at a very short notice. (not sure with its current state )

Hope this answers you.....

What a shame. We should have got them as free gift from some "master of reverse engineering and copying" communist state. Or better, we should have launched a military operation to kill our own citizens just to appease some superpower to be able to beg some of their used 2nd hand "latest technology" equipments, got a nice paint job done and then we should have declared our every "launch" as "successful test".

Indians are yet to "master" their expertise in space and defence sector. lot to learn from our advanced neighbours.
