Armata - Russia’s Top-Secret Battle Tank Captured on Video

The Stryker turret is manned, i was under the impression that it was unmanned and controlled via automation but it turns out that the gunner sits inside the turret. It is nothing like the Armata's turret because i the Armata the entire crew including the gunner sit at the front of the tank totally isolated from every other part of the tank including turret and ammunition. There is no comparison between the two.

There is nothing really unique about it and again the basic principles still applied. Sure the turret is not completed isolated from the hull, but the gun is remote weapons station with an autoloader.

For example this spg. Unmanned turret, autoloader.

In any case, there is nothing special about it and countries had prototypes of such design with unmanned battle tanks besides on light armor vehicles and artillery. And as the poster said before that its uniquely Russian, its really not.

The Stryker has a guy siting in the turret, there is nothing remote about, it's a manned turret. As for artillery, an artillery battery works nothing like a tank gun. A tank has a ballistics computer or fire control computer which constantly adjusts the barrel of the gun as the tank moves over uneven terrain, a ballistic computer even takes into account if a tank is canted at an angle; moreover, the ballistics computer takes into account the speed of the tank, the cant angle of the tank, the environmental conditions, ect and then it calculates the target in a similar way. Artillery is much less sophisticated and nothing like the Armata tank.

It doesn't matter since the principles are still applied. Unmanned turret, autoloader, etc.

You can disagree whether you think its not remote control because the turret ring hatch is opened to the hull or that the crew are within the turret ring or within the turret.

Would this tank be remote weapons station?

If this thing is for testing then is OK
But if this thing is the next generation of battle tank, probably new kind of cancer of senses have appeared in Russia...

No, while the Falcon turret puts all crew in the hull, ot still has 2 crew located in the basket, which technically is part of the turret system. It is therefor a manned turret.

To be honest, i cant understand one thing.. if you put the auto loader in the turret, in case the turret get hitten, all those ammunition will blow up and there is no way you can save those soldiers.
This is just my pure idea.. probably, thats why, it was not more than just test for many those countries..

Hi Kamil, the ammunition is kept in a different compartment from the portion of the turret that is exposed. The ammunition is only loaded into the barrel of the weapon just prior to firing, and even as it does, only one shell is loaded at a time.

Man-operated turrets also feature this design philosophy:
Animated_gun_turret.gif

The advantage of remotely-controlled turrets is that crewmembers do not have to physically be in the turret, where he or she might be hit by enemy fire, to operate the weapon. This also allows for greater autonomy in military vehicles.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Bustle loaders are one option. The Falcon turret places crew below turret ring, inside the hull. It features a bustle mounted auto-loader with 'Blow-out Panel'.

The lower hull is another. It is much less likely to be penetrated by fire from another tank. But whether that's the case in assymmetric warfare....

Undefeated "Armata"

The first of April I was approached by a journalist edition of "Top Secret" with questions about the situation in Russia tankostroitelnoy industry and the world tank manufacturing. Now, after the first frame with the "Armata" this theme dominates the minds of many, this treatment did not consider this a joke and gave quite detailed answers that drew about 14.5 thousand characters. However, in the final article included no more than a tenth of the story to tell.Well ... as they say, and thanks for that.

INSTEAD new tanks at the parade SHOW THEIR SELF-PROPELLED MODELS?

In late March, the Internet got the DVR recording, where one of the roads in the suburbs captured unusual camouflaged tank. Perhaps, therefore, was first shown heavy tank T-14 "Armata" that representatives of the defense industry speak for several years. According to them, this war machine could be a major step forward in the development of armored vehicles in the world. What would constitute a new Russian tank and why Western countries almost do not react to this Russian technical breakthrough, correspondent found out "Top Secret". It is argued that the current army received prototypes - about two dozen T-14 - for field tests.

Now all these tanks deployed on the ground in Alabino assigned to the Taman Motorized Rifle Division, which is used to train troops for the parade. There is every reason to believe that on 9 May, among other military hardware displays the new combat vehicles, including innovative tank, built on the basis of combat platform "Armata".

The Defense Ministry will spend 10 billion rubles for the "raw" TANKS

As told to "Top Secret" military expert Alex hassle state tests "Almaty was" not yet been carried out. "Moreover, the full prototypes intended for use in the running of these tanks are not fully ready. Obviously, the Defense Ministry orders the party "unfinished" and "raw" tanks with only one purpose - to impress Western opponents in the parade. Reliably do not know how much is now "Armata" sounded figure of 400 million rubles for the car, if you multiply by 24 ordered for the parade - we get a sum of about 10 billion rubles.

PR campaign turns out not cheap: if the money is transferred to production tanks, it would be possible to get at least two battalions set new T-90A ". Recall that the development of a unified combat platform "Armata" and created on its basis of the T-14 is engaged in industrial company "Uralvagonzavod" design center that develops the main Russian T-72 and T-90. Here, within five years to design and develop T-14. Manufacturer excited to announce that in 2020 this company will build more than two thousand tanks T-14, which will be up to 70% of Russia's tank fleet. Although the full features of the tank kept secret, some assumptions about the properties of this fighting machine from the experts there. Weight of the new tank will be about 50 tons, the power plant will be a gas turbine engine capacity of 1500 liters. p. On tank will be hung powerful protection - composite and reactive armor.

Surveillance system - a high-resolution camera. The uniqueness of the new tank is that none of the crew members will be placed in the tower, the most vulnerable part of the tank. The crew (according to various reports, two or three people) will be protected in a special capsule in front of the machine. Producers promise that Russian tankers would be better protected in the world. Special conversation - about arming. The tank will be installed 120-mm smoothbore gun, it is argued that it is 15-20% more accurate gun T-90 tank, which means that the tank will be equipped with more advanced targeting system. Manufacturers even dare to assert that their weapon on most performance ahead of the reference tank gun Rheinmetall Rh-120 mounted on a German tank Leopard-2.

At T-14 fully automatic loading mechanism, with the guidance process will be the most computerized. Furthermore, the design allows the gun to rotate together with the turret in all directions. Additionally, the tank is equipped with a 30 mm anti-aircraft guns to destroy the attack helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles. And finally, it has a 12.7 mm machine gun to fight the enemy infantry.

IN RUSSIA make the best tank in the world

Estimated specifications of this tank is forced to speak of him as the most advanced military machine in the world that will surpass the advanced American and German M1A3 Abrams main battle tank - Leopard 2A7 + modified. Has been widely reported that the T-14 is part of the universal combat platform, which will be the basis for a series of armored tracked vehicles in the new generation. In the future, this chassis will be used to create 13 different vehicles, including BMP, combat engineering vehicle, tank support combat vehicle and self-propelled artillery. Even foreign experts agree that create many different armored vehicles on a single platform - a clever and practical step. It is economical and much easier for repairs and supplies.

The very idea, however, is not new: in the Soviet era was to create a universal tank chassis - for example, the development of various combat vehicles used chassis T-72 tank. Director of the Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade Igor Korotchenko told "Top Secret" that Russia, with the help of "Almaty was" made a breakthrough in tank. "This is the fifth generation tank, Russia - the first country to develop weapons of this class. In the United States, France and Germany, the recognized world centers of tank, not able to implement a project that failed Corporation "Uralvagonzavod".

The main difference between a tank that is realized a lot of new solutions. Is a security bronekapsuly, which houses the crew, which also provides comfortable conditions of warfare. But most importantly, it is a technical solution to isolate the crew from ammunition previously in the case of falling shells often detonated, leaving the tanks chance of survival. Another important feature of this tank is that now maximally automate all processes from loading the gun to control and decision making in the conduct of hostilities.

For example, the tanks will be able to communicate on the battlefield, to interact with the command post of top management, targeting both receive from adjacent tanks, as well as from other sources, including drones and reconnaissance robotic system. Introduced new private communication systems that enable secure radio support and share information. In general, a set of innovative solutions. This is important in the next 50-70 years tanks remain the main strike weapons to wage war on any scale and intensity. "

In 1983 he was created future tanks M-1 ABRAMS With uninhabited tower,

MOST manufacturability ARMY OF PEACE SHALL CREATE modern tanks for over thirty years

It should be noted that the creation of an entirely new main battle tank - a rarity for most armies of the world. Leopard-2 tank Bundeswehr was created over 35 years ago, the American M1 Abrams about the same age. Existing models of Western combat vehicles have a number of improvements, but it is only modernization, but the basic design remains the same. Then, when the tanks were created in the leading countries tankoproizvodyaschih was an active search for solutions in layout, manning and allocation of its tasks. It should be noted that the above "revolutionary" and secret features "Almaty was" run-Americans in the modification M1 TTB Abrams. Firm General Dynamics Land Systems and the US Army Tank-Automotive Management worked hard to create long-term tank, experimenting with layout. A distinctive feature of the experimental war machine was uninhabited tower installation with a remotely controlled instrument and increased reservation upper front body parts.

The program was built chassis layout tank FTTB, as the main armament it was installed the existing 120-mm smoothbore gun M256, equipped with automatic loading XM-91. In the future, the tank was planned to equip the 140-mm gun, developed under the program ATASS. The crew capsule placed in the armored in front of the housing in an ergonomic chair, installed in series. To test the new layout of the tank was manufactured chassis layout SRV. Testing began in 1983, but after the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was announced that in connection with reducing the threat of development of the tank will be stopped. But it seems that the main reason is not only that. The project was not viable for the layout and technical aspects. In any case, the only manufacturer of test prototype now rusts. Similar ideas were the French and the development of the tank Leclerc, but they were rejected for the same reasons as in the United States, and also their tank did not go to series.

AMERICANS abandon the idea of a desert TOWERS

Later, the idea of an uninhabited tower was abandoned altogether in the 1990s DARPA and RAND Corporation conducted a comprehensive study and modeling of combat operations in terms of local and global conflicts tanks to the new layout.Among them, a desert version of the tank turret was not even considered the main reason for the inability to call to ensure adequate protection of the crew. Because of the additional volume that takes bronekapsuly, you have to sacrifice the outer thick armor, and this leads to a lower level of protection, otherwise you need to significantly increase the size and weight of the combat vehicle. Another insurmountable problem was the lack of a visual overview of a circular from the commander.Experts believe that the effectiveness of the control tank depends on how much the crew can keep a sense of presence on the battlefield. To do this, you must make the highest quality surveillance system, and the mechanism of target detection - fast.

Visibility from the tank is limited, so sometimes we even have to look out to the commander of the hatch to look around. If the crew is in bronekapsuly, almost everything depends on observation devices and on the extent to which they allow you to display their environment. It would seem that the current level of technology to make the information field crew can be saturated, but some experts say that means vision did not reach the required level even in the US and Western Europe, which is trying to do, using the properties of 3D-simulation. The more curious as to how this technical problem managed to be solved in Russia. Experts say that today in western countries do not create new tanks not only because of the inability to solve key technical problems. There rooted opinion that the tanks in its present form as a type of military equipment outdated. This is due to the fact that the means of destruction essentially bypassed opportunities most modern armor both hitting range, and value. The maximum effective range of fire of a modern tank - 3500 meters, with modern multi-purpose anti-precision-guided missiles that can be used with air, sea and land platforms for the destruction of armored vehicles at a distance of over 8000 meters. This led to the fact that modern anti-air-based means destroying a tank without entering an aircraft or helicopter in the area of its effective fire. Wearable ATGM FGM-148 Javelin guaranteed to destroy tanks from a distance of up to 2500 meters. In this case, the missile complex in the tens or even hundreds of times less than the cost of the tank. So that the tank loses its effectiveness in countering high-tech armies and remains an effective tool in the war with only technologically backward countries that do not have effective anti-tank weapons, which clearly showed the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Combat vehicles FUTURE GET ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Since the first appearance of the structural tanks of heavy tracked combat vehicles have not undergone any significant change. Both then and now the task of the tank - to protect the crew from bullets and shells due to thicken armor. However, the weighting of the tanks is a whole lot of problems. Machines have become unwieldy, making them more vulnerable and it becomes critical, given the penetrative power of modern weapons. In addition, the modern battle becomes more dynamic, which imposes new requirements for armored vehicles. It is no coincidence in the Office of the Pentagon's Defense Advanced Research Projects (DARPA) in the past year said they are starting a new program Ground X-Vehicle Technology (GXV-T). This project aims to create a completely new type of tank - fast, easy and mobile. Americans categorically state that all the innovations introduced in the tank development, focused on heavy weapons, but in the end it made tanks less effective.

In DARPA decided to look at the tanks from a different angle, is currently under the program goes audit technologies that will increase mobility and reduce the vulnerability of armored combat vehicles. Announced that it will be achieved not by increasing engine power and the thickness of the armor, the emphasis will be on high speed, maneuverability and patency of the new combat vehicle. The maximum will use new technology to protect from detection, reduce heat and radar signature, to counter enemy guidance systems. In DARPA said that they intend to soon sign a number of contracts for commercial production of the tank, as well as supporting research programs associated with the project. In DARPA confidently say that in the near future will revolutionize tank building. Minimum program - to create a new generation of tanks, which will double the easier, faster and more maneuverable three times the current sample. These mobile tanks will be equipped with systems that will literally dodge flying projectiles at them - the boys are rescued from snow. Based on the model of the new tank will create a whole new class of products for military industry. In parallel, the Americans are adopting autonomous military units and lead the development of a fully unmanned combat vehicles.

As part of the Grand Challenge, sponsored by the US government developed robotic transport platforms that will be used, including for the creation of robotic tanks. Experts believe that the new technological solutions in the near future will create a completely uninhabited combat vehicles. Perhaps in the near future combat vehicle will be controlled remotely or by using artificial intelligence. It is in this direction and moves the development of military equipment. It is no coincidence the Pentagon claim that in 2015 are going to be replaced by robots third of its vehicle fleet in order to minimize the risks of casualties in hazardous conditions. Alex Khlopotov says that the corporation "Uralvagonzavod" track modern trends of tank.A few years ago it was a subdivision that unites the various bureaus and institutions just for the development of robotics. So it is possible that the same "Armata" 10-15 years so will be unmanned, remote-controlled and partially robot (with the makings of artificial intelligence) tank.

The expert believes that the armored vehicles will also be developed in connection with the creation of systems on different physical and chemical principles, such as electromagnetic guns, and this will make them more easily. Parallel to meet the challenges of providing energy: creating new sources of supply, generators, energy storage. With the transition to the "electric board" can be connected and ensure mobility. As an example - electric transmission. "Maybe in the near future tank reincarnated in air independent fighting machine capable to fight, for example, under the water, then even on other planets" - summed up our companion.
