I have seeing lots of new threads suggesting Arjun's new components - its becoming a potent tank. But not so Indigenous anymore :coffee:

1)IA hates anything that has the phrase "Made In India".[E.g:-INSAS,ARJUN.......etc]
2)Do not believe P.S.Gupta and his factual Information based on his mental masturbation sessions.

i dont abt the whole artic but the engine thing might be right.bcoz a drdo official talked abt this earlier.

'We plan to source engines from Cummins India for future orders. If more orders come by, we can reduce the imported content to 25 percent,'

Quite right. The only things plausible is that Cummins India has in fact already offered a power-plant, but it is under test. While DRDO is working to tweak the MTU power plant. So there will be a face off between those two for the final choice. The other stuff about the Brit option etc is blah-blah.

About the Kanchan armor rework; there is work going on to reduce the weight; but that job is in-house. BTW, the Israelis were very favorably impressed with the Kanchan, but the IA is pushing very hard for a weight reduction package.

About Israeli involvement, they are very much onboard on the sensor upgrade package. Thats that. While work is going on in DRDO on the ERA fit.

BTW, the picture in the first post seems to be of the HATSOFF simulator, that has no connection to the MBT project.

5 million is the cost escalation considered for the APS ,improved engine etc.
APS costs around quarter million.

right now the tank costs 3.8 million.

Actually Cummins India had started out as a JV called Kirloskar Cummins. Then Kirloskar divested in favor of Cummins. And the Tatas have taken up a stake in Cummins, because many of their HCVs use Cummins engines, including some models of the Prima range. People may be interested to note that engines made by Cummins India are used in Ulsteinviks (a Norwegian design) of oilfield support ships being built in China! Interestingly Cummins India is a major global source for a particular range of diesel engines sold all over the world, since their manufacture has been scaled down in USA and the West. If the Cummins India power-pack gets approved for the Arjun project, even the engine will be Indian made.

BTW, Cummins in Pakistan is only a "sales and service agency" representing Cummins USA.
