Arjun Mk.2 to be tested by DRDO from May 10 | idrw.org

Come May and DRDO will be rolling out new and improved Arjun Mk.2 into the Pokhran field firing range in Rajasthan for a week of firing trials. The heavier Arjun Mk.2 incorporates some 93 improvements on the Mk.1 tank, 124 of which are already in operational service in two tank regiments in the Army.

User Trials will also be conducted by Indian army in June , after which production of 124 tanks will be start , as per sources close sources to idrw.org , Indian army after successful trails is also seriously considering to place order for another 124 tanks taking the tally to 372 , which compared to current T-90s MBT order is small relatively . Russians on other side have been Pushing T90 AM a improved version of the T-90 tank, which was displayed at Defexpo 2012.

Russians seems to be threaten by improved version of the Arjun Mk.2 over T-90s which had lost to Arjun Mk-1 in comparative trials conducted between Russian built T-90s against Indian built Arjun MK-1 last year which forced even Indian army officials to accept superiority of Locally built tanks over Russian import .

Russians fear that Indian order of T-90s might shrink in future due to availability of better tanks and change of heart in Indian army officials over Arjun have already rung alarm bells in Russia ,due to possible loss of biggest Russian Tank importer in the world .

time to become self-reliant in this field too....

My friend, I agree with you. However, you can't be self-reliant with the current attitude of IA. Any military hardware may not be 100% meeting all requirements in the initial days, it needs a constant upgrade. The same thing happened in case of AKASH and NAG missiles. However, when it comes to TANK not sure why IA always backed away from it, Instead of making T-90 in such a huge numbers they should have given atleast 500 Arjun Mark I order(which is nothing when compared with the total number of active tanks in IA). We could have always upgraded them to Mark II level. But some one in the army decided to go the import way. Hopefully this time they decide the right way, which will make us self reliant and give us great machines.

I strongly believe in our countries scientist. They may not be a rabbit(in case of running), but they are not a snail.

Now we are self reliant in making the crucial defense products, and it always make us good in structuring the crucial things.
if the indigenous products are good than foreign ones, then we need to induct that things in many numbers.

Even if it is proved that Arjun is "a bit" less capable than the T90(Not gonna happen, i know it) , it still makes sense to go for indigenous tanks.. Which can be later upgraded to suit the requirements of the IA.. Indian people working to make Indian tanks = $$$ stay in India, people get jobs, IA happy because of no supply constraints = Everyone happy..!! (Except for some in MOD who wont be getting their share of the import per tank..!!)

you must be kidding... or else an ignorer.

first, arjun is faster - on desert or on road. second, if money is the matter, we MIGHT NOT choose rafale....

india does not play with quality now-a-days. oops!!! this surprises me too.

now be realistic and get ready for more orders of arjun. and remember, i am not being over patriotic or optimistic but i feel this is to be the reality very soon.

It is premature to state that it would be better than Al Khalid. BTW...its Arjun Mk2...u should compare Arjun Mk 1 with Al Khalid 1...Ak is way better than Arjun for now cuz Arjun couldnt even make it to the indian army. If you wanna compare Arjun Mk 2 ..compare it with Al Khalid 2..which is yet to come.
