What's new

Apache down-selected for Bangladesh attack helicopter requirement

Not now but what about 10/20 years down the line?

Brand new F-18s would last for 30 years. Refurbished F-16s are ok as they would last 15 years max.

China gets as strong as USA and US wants as many countries as possible on it's side?

Muslim bloc forms(2030 onwards) to threaten USA and Chinese interests?
IMO the best course of action is to either invest in indigenous capability (be it alone or with partners, such as the Turks, South Africans, Brazilians, etc), or to double down with one supplier and try to get the best deals possible.

So, it's up to BD which path it wants to take. However, if the idea is to build out a military capability sooner rather than later, and a really good one, the Super Hornet is the way to go.

Then you must despise the Qatar/India/Egypt methodology.

LOL.

Excellent choice.

Best wishes for Bangladesh in improving its military might.

Why too much? Does helicopter cost more than fighter? :o:
Contrary to popular belief, advanced (high tech) helicopters are very expensive machines. There are some helicopters which are more expensive than even F-35. Imagine that.

India settled on a formula that will lead to indigenization. Basically, leverage a big-ticket purchase to pressure the supplier into transferring technology, production work, etc. India's large economy and geo-political position helps too, but their goal is to develop what they can't get overseas, buy ToT where possible, and combine. So, the Dhruv, LCH, Tejas, Tejas Mk2, etc, are all examples of this approach, and it seems to be working.

Egypt's focus is to localize as much of the defence expenditure as possible (so as to support employment and help out domestic vested interests). So, for Egypt, the key is probably to see as much of that money spent locally, and other metrics (max number of people employed, max areas with plants, etc).

Qatar just wants to dabble in the business and ROI side of this stuff. So it's more open to investing in emerging def companies (like in Turkey), not too concerned where that tech is or who's making it.

Since we're on a roll, Pakistan is basically split based on the service arm (and its realities). So, as the Army and Navy can get what they want off-the-shelf, they're mostly happy with buying from 1-2 suppliers and trying to get the best deals possible. But since the PAF is blocked which ever way it looks, or can't find the solution it wants on the market, it wants to indigenize.

Yep Apache comes with advanced radar and engines that are just as advanced as any fighter aircraft.
They also have extremely sophisticated FWB and electronics systems on board.

The link above says the ISIS compiled an instruction manual on how to destroy American Apache by a shoulder-held MANPAD. Is it true that an Apache can be killed by a novice who knows how to handle MANPAD. After all, Helis flow very low making it an easy target.

I hope, our defense experts have taken notice of this possibility.

For some reasons helicopters are getting really expensive. Idk much about helicopters but there’s this video I’ve seen, the dude bought the helicopter for 65000 in 99 but now it’s worth more than 2.5 million

I think its due to first time procurement.

Bangladesh has no enemy. Bangladesh can afford minimum spending on defense budget.
The reality is we are surrounded by enemies. Just they are coated with alliance. Both of our neighbors are hostile towards us and will try to crush us if they have the chance. So IMHO we need to spend maximum on our defense budget. Our fate is, either we stand tall, or get annihilated! So increasing defense budget is the key to our survival and success!

Perhaps this is the solution.
