Anxious Indians in Silicon Valley consider options after H-1B reforms

You're too optimistic. India has the talent for software, but has no ecosystem that is even comparable to Silicon Valley. Infrastructure, smart money, corruption, transparency, law and regulation, intellectual property, cluster of creative industry etc. Silicon Valley isn't about cheap labour.

What are you talking about? None of this is relevant to how Indian companies will run now.

I'm talking about how Indian companies will adapt to H1B. And this method is being talked about by all industry leaders in the field.

http://www.livemint.com/Politics/Lx...ms-a-blessing-in-disguise-for-IT-firms-s.html
The present business model of Indian IT companies—offshore-onsite work ratio of 70:30 would now go up to 90:10, the former chief financial officer of Infosys said. “So, what will happen is they (Indian IT firms) will offshore more work and increase their competitiveness. They will do only 10% work onsite, and 90% offshore,” Pai told PTI.

Indian companies are forced to relocate work back to the US based on client requirements. But if H1B visas are not allowed, then the Indian companies will be able to keep jobs in India itself. So it doesn't really change things for India, except further reduce costs.

What's all this got to do with California and its infrastructure and regulations?

Trump will ensure that more software jobs are created in America. Indians should work for Indian companies.

Trump can't ensure that. Primarily because there aren't enough qualified people to do the job in the first place.

This will devastate Indian economy, which is remittance based.

Nothing will happen to the remittances. Nor will it affect the Indian economy.

Ok. Then I will be looking forward to India creating her own H-1B visa and have a brain gain instead of a brain drain.

India is not suffering from labour shortage. In fact, we will be adding another 400 million people to our population by 2050. Many other countries, including China, are/will suffer from labour shortages because of a shrinking population.

What is more important for India is attracting greenfield FDI. India lacks capital, not labour.

Gulfis are no short of jobs? they should too kick out Islam/Muslim hater Hindus and hire Arab people with skills.

They will never do that because they are incapable of doing that.

Not to mention, 50% of the migrant population is Muslim in the first place.

They can, there are enough jobless skilled people in Middle east and Africa.

You overestimate the Hindus's hatred of Muslims and underestimate the hatred the Muslims show to their own ilk.

India is now slowly gaining the name worldwide as the hub of Hindu extremists. Kudos to RSS.

Sadly, you are a person-non-grata when it comes to Middle Eastern countries.

Given the fact that Gulf countries are kicking out Pakistani, it seems Islam is not all important for them. May be they do not want Pakistani in their countries.

If I remember Hassan Nisar, he has repeated mentioned that it is Pakistani who go and seek a common identity with Gulf countries based on Islam, those countries actually find it obnoxious.

Actually the situation is a bit more complex. Most of the west have their minds filled with images of ISIS, so there any kind of Hindu extremism does not even register. I mean where are RSS beheading videos etc? At best among few British 'intellect' circles Kashmiri's plight and isolated cases of Muslim lynching in India make some murmur but that is all.

Perhaps this is all rooted deeply in human nature of masking one signal for other. I remember once studying how a louder signal can mask noise altogether, it is used for actual perceived noise reduction.

You must be working under the table.

Trump should revoke GC for Indians that stole American jobs and deport. Look into denaturalize Indians that gain their citizenship through thefting of American jobs.

This is a sick example of how Indians behave in America after got their work visa

Would I be jealous when you appear on TV with Chris Hansen? No I'm not LOL. But you get what you deserved when he asked you to take a seat.

I myself belong to IT industry and I'm quite happy that USA is withdrawing H1B.In fact,Onsite Opportunity is another reason for Brain Drain in India and its only the best in oiling others get it.Also a section has knack to leave their country for more earning, which should have been stopped.

In one word,H1B might bring us some good opportunities.

Now why People are fearing H1B might not be good for Indians??Because a lot of engineers are working there and they has to come back.It was an easy way to make more money and that opportunity is probably lost. But H1B can't curtail Indian IT market as companies know,They can get a work done at 1/6th cost of what they need to pay in US to get it done. So,there will be ZERO effect on Indian IT market.

In fact,Indian companies are already re positioning their strategies to adapt it.Infosys already said that they curtailed so called onshore working force and this enabled them to make more profit.

And the bunch of pu$$!3$ who are saying that 96% engineers don't know coding and such, most of the IT engineers come from non IT background and they never even studied Automata.Automata is not even essential to write basic codes(I don't know who the F had this idea).Hell,I studied Automata in Masters but way before that I was making flawless high end coding. In fact,Automata is the one of the toughest subject I've ever faced while I got Outstanding in my all Programming and Database related papers(C,C++,Java,Shell Programming,SQL,PL/SQL,Computer Graphics and such).LOL.

Its the market transition I'm worried about.Automation will make a lot of profiles redundant.I'm worried whether many companies will even bother to re skill their work force or not.Thats why I want to stick to Data Science and Analytics related projects, which will empower IT and Public in general in years to come.
