I never understood what "Crony Capitalism" meant.

Capitalism is just a social arrangement in which everyone tries to maximize his own profit. To achieve that, there are two different approaches. One is through making and offering better and more products and services. It is called entrepreneur capitalism, in which consumers are the king. The other is through violence and coercive force. With no government, the capitalists employ violence themselves. With government, the monopoly of coercive power, they do so through politicians. It is called cronyism capitalism, in which producers and their government allies are the king.

Both spring from self interest. One is the major driving force of human development. The other is the major hindrance.

4. Increased religiosity in the masses.

For an individual, it is not always a clear cut. It is very often that a capitalist is both an entrepreneur and a player of cronyism. It is true almost everywhere, particularly in countries where governments play a big role in economy. In places that governments have little impact on economy, capitalists have no choice but to be entrepreneurs only. No capitalist likes to spend money on some politicians that bring no benefit. Remember, it is ALL about maximizing profit.
