United China for 2000 years is just a relative term. Like others countries of the world, China was too both united and fragmented in last 2000 years and even ruled by foreigners. the Western half of China with non-Han ethnicities became part of China just 300 years back.

Both whom also became Chinese in the end from the Mongol to the Manchu. After the Yuan Dynasty collapsed guess who were more than happy to the kick them out & the Qing got overthrown with the formation of the Republic.
