If Nawaz Sharif’s fairly long meeting with the British Foreign Minister followed by his sojourn to Saudi Arabia is any indication, he is the chosen one for the next five years to lead Pakistan.
Every eye is on Nawaz Sharif and every bet on him because he is being perceived by important foreign government as the next prime minister to do business with. This perception is so strong that USA, UK and Saudi Arabia have started supporting him through giving him unwarranted attention. This has raised his winning prospects at home and every Tom, Dick and Harry of Pakistani politics is in a race to join him.

And this is not unusual as everyone bets on a potentially winning horse; and so do the important players in international politics. Those who have their political stakes in Pakistan, and who meddle in Pakistani affairs with an iota of embarrassment are USA, UK, Saudi Arabia and, to a great extent, UAE. They do that by sponsoring and patronizing the domestic political players. They in fact bet on their own horses and try to patronize the ones who have potentials to win. In some cases, they engineer, manage and facilitate their victory.

India and Afghanistan, being neighbors are also interested in political developments in Pakistan but their meddling is not direct; they use other means through other players to indulge in Pakistani politics. India cannot afford to support any player. India’s meddling is only to discredit the only institution it perceives as threat to its regional ambitions, Pakistan’s security establishment. India tries to tarnish its image in the eyes of Pakistanis themselves in a very subtle manner, like through media and a section of so-called analysts and opportunist politicos.

There are rumors that the US has decided that it will remote control Pakistan through Nawaz Sharif whose outbursts against Iran Pipeline and transfer of Gwadar Port management to China indicate he has made himself acceptable to the US. There are voices in the US advising the administration to refrain from controlling Pakistan’s internal political processes. A US report, Previewing Pakistan’s 2013 Elections warns that whoever wins the next elections should try to resolve the problems the country faces or be prepared to face accountability.

The report notes that US efforts in past decades to advance its interests in Pakistan “through direct contact with favored military or political elite partners have proven unsustainable, and attempts to repeat such practices are likely to become more unworkable as the system shifts towards greater multi-polarity, at least for the near term.” There are reports that Saudis are persuading Musharraf to review his decision of returning to Pakistan to participate in the elections citing security reasons. Everyone wants a risk-free environment for Nawaz to contest elections and return to power without hassle.

Nawaz Sharif gets official protocol in London

Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif was provided protocol by Pakistan High Commission as well as Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) during his last private trip to London.
Mr Shari and his wife Begum Kulsoom were received at the Heathrow Airport by Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK Wajid Shamusl Hasan and his wife Begum Zarina Wajid.

Nawaz Sharif had arrived in London from Geneva on Wednesday (March 13). He left for Pakistan on Monday via Dubai.
Geo News correspondent Murtaza Ali Shah said Mr Sharif finalized his plans to visit London only after it was confirmed that Britain’s foreign secretary and other Pakistan watchers at the FCO wanted to meet him exclusively.

Sharif and Hague held talks for an hour but both sides have kept this news a secret. A spokesman at the FCO confirmed that the meeting had taken place but refused to discuss the agenda of the meeting.
“We can confirm that the foreign secretary met Mr Sharif on Thursday (March 14).

It is routine for the foreign secretary to meet with leaders of political parties visiting London,” said the spokesman.
Whenever High Commission learnt of his visit he was extended full protocol, said a source in Pakistan High Commission when asked if Mr Sharif was provided protocol because of his high poll ratings, suggesting that he may be able to form the next government.

The IRI and other US associated polls which indicated that PML-N is a popular party, contrary to all others, was signal that the US, in association with the old imperial power (soon to be New) and their Wahabi allies, will not allow the will of the Pakistani public to be expressed

Lets see who wins.. the American, Saudi and Brit Stuge of Choice of People in Pakistan. This time Army who used to play a pivotal role would be impartial and it really up to election commission and the electoral system to decide who wins and who not.

PML-N was always a sold out wh*re party & this time they proved it again that they are once again on sale to the highest bidder & they have sold themselves like wh*re.

Bastard 100% Zardari agreed to all the US terms & conditions that he will do whatever he can to harm Pakistan & GOD knows how many deals were made under table. Similarly sob Nawaz the kuta sharif has agreed all the terms & conditions to harm Pakistan in worse possible, if this a** hole wins the election then worse is coming to Pakistan even worse than kuta Zardari's corrupt 5 year rule.

PML-N, PML-Q, ANP, JUI, PPP, & MQM are all enemies of the state & their objective is only to harm Pakistan in whatever way possible. They are working openly for the enemies of Pakistan.

The worst part is everyone is mute over this.....evryone starts speculating about a military coup and conspiracy theories if a tiny little thing happens but no one voices there concern about this

Pay them & you will shut their mouths. This has been the policy of all the corrupt & incompetent politicians.

Report urges US not to attempt to control Pakistan politics
Anwar Iqbal

WASHINGTON: The United States should work with — not attempt to control — Pakistan’s internal political processes, says a new US report released on Wednesday.

The — “Previewing Pakistan’s 2013 Elections” — also warns that whoever wins the next elections should try to resolve the problems the country faces or be prepared to face accountability.

“Only Pakistanis themselves are capable of establishing a more stable, democratic system capable of balancing diverse interest groups and effectively addressing the country’s challenges,” says author Colin Cookman who wrote this report for a Washington think tank, Centre for American Progress. The report points out that as Pakistan’s political and economic structures shift to lower the barriers for entry, multiple political actors compete to establish the rules of the game.

While “a powerful military with a history of interventionism still waits in the wings, the future course of Pakistan’s political system is highly uncertain,” it warns.

The report notes that US efforts in past decades to advance its interests in Pakistan “through direct contact with favoured military or political elite partners have proven unsustainable, and attempts to repeat such practices are likely to become more unworkable as the system shifts towards greater multi-polarity, at least for the near term.”

Reviewing the last five years of democratic rule, the author notes that Pakistan’s more decentralised post-2008 political system has forced the prioritisation of consensus policies on many issues, and may prove more democratic in its ability to accommodate diverse elected and unelected interest groups. The author also argues that the system has been slow to respond to militant separatism, terrorist violence and economic stagnation and failed system also failed to ease tense relations with regional neighbours and international partners. “Whichever coalition of political leaders finds itself in power after elections this summer will face accountability for inaction on these issues, which cannot be deferred indefinitely,” the report warns.

It encourages the US to make efforts to support Pakistan’s democratic evolution and the success of its upcoming elections. Such efforts should include a public commitment to neutrality and respect for the electoral processes, coupled with support for an international observation mission.

It also urges US diplomatic and military officials to continue to engage with a broad array of Pakistani civilian leaders and military officials, while making it clear that the United States “does not favour any specific electoral outcome and strongly opposes any disruption of the constitutional process or intervention during the caretaker period

Nawaz is an easy sell out, even easier than Zardari as a matter of fact comparing Nawaz with Zardari is an insult to Zardari.

Pakistan needs a hardcore nationalist movement and leaders seeking foreign influence should be tried for treason, disqualified and jailed for five years. Foreign political influences in Pakistan need to be booted out, especially those flowing in from Gulf.! Ohh and by the way one should read gulf news papers regarding what they have got to say about foreign political influences in their own countries while they go around financing revolutions in Syria and meddling in Pakistan.
