American Fast Food Took Over Kuwait And Made Its People Obese: VICE on HBO, Full Episode

Agree with everything you said..

But never said that individuals shouldn't have a choice to eat where they wish freely?

Just that those places don't promote healthy eating, which they absolutely don't!

Just as people have free choice to decide what to eat, businesses are equally free to promote their wares within the confines of law. (Tobacco companies come to mind here.) The laws for promoting health and safety is where the emphasis should lie.

I was replying to another member who had said those companies weren't exactly selling fruits and vegetables.

Point being that fast food consumption on a daily basis is not healthy.

That's not conjecture on my part, that's a medical fact, which I believe you are aware of.

All that being said, people can obviously stuff their face with it all they want.

But there are obviously long-term effects and a price to be paid for long-term consumption. The video is eye opening.

Problem is that with growing amount of obese people this adds new strains on the healthcare system. It increases the cost of healthcare and also burdens the economy. You'll have a decreased work productivity, higher amount of compensation claims from workers, and these can lead to lower earnings.

These effects are also creeping on others too sadly.

All great points. That stuff is practically poison long-term.

It is economics.

The largest part of the costs are the fixed costs, such as rent, administration, employees salary, etc.

The variable costs, i.e. the cost for another litre of Coca Cola is basically nothing. For another kilogram of French Fries is almost nothing. Yet they can charge people an extra 10-20% to double all the portions.

It is sad, with all those calories they could be building a good amount of muscle. But instead they just get fat.

True abt coke n fries costs. For soft drinks they get basic liquid , buy a machine which adds effervescence to the soft drink liquid and mixes it with water. So fast food restaurants make soft drinks sort of indoors thats at times when liquid isnt mixed well with water we get a bad tasting cold drink which one oculd get replaced.

As of fries i have personally seen a top end restaurants workers going to local nearby shopping marts frozen food items sections and picking dozens of frozen potato fries packets and buying them for their restaurant that for a handful of fries ;like lets say a small pack of fries containing 20-25 french fries it sells to its diners, charges almost 75 pc of the total cost of a 1 KG BAG of frozen fries. I mean thats ridiculous
