America’s Indian Rebuff

No, it means China has won a strategic victory without even fighting one battle. Just turned India from hostile to neutral country. It's hard for USA and India relations to ever get back to 2004-2008 levels. Instead, they will be like 2003. This is very favorable to China because it makes Pakistan more easily defensible if the two countries on the two sides don't get along enough to wage a war together.

Now it becomes much easier to for China, Pakistan, Russia and Central Asia countries to do military exercises in all directions surrounding Afghanistan. This means we can easily defeat USA in Afghanistan and project power all the way through Iran (another ally) and into Persian Gulf.

A Chinese naval base in the Persian Gulf with aircraft carrier battle group by 2020 should be China's next strategic goal!

If that was intended to be a logical, reasoned out analysis of Indo-US relations then......................
May be Harry Potter might have some opinions on this matter too?

So far the Indians say the have the money and they can buy US. US is seller and India is the buyer and Indians think this thing has given them the biggest edge over US enough to bully it even and whenever they want.

now how true it is that one has to wait and see

China bullying USA?

China doesn't have any decent naval capabilities yet. Seems a little far-fetched.

Why does the United States need India?

To buy......stuff.

The US manufacturing sector is not as robust as it used to be. Some of the few manufacturing sectors that are robust are the weapons manufacturing sector. And has a growing export market.

There is the middle east (the Arabs are often forced to buy them) and India is currently the largest importer of weapons, nearly 70% of its weapons inventory are all imported. So, it is a very attractive market.

American equipment are perceived to be a cutting edge of technology in the eyes of many, and American companies will use that image to market them, where ever possible for the most part.

India and american relationship is based on pure business... we are providing them big market and they are getting good business from us.. both are happy.. for kind information of few so called journalists India is having a trade surplus with US... Indians having a remarkable community in US... and both are facing the same problem of terrorism... India having a good relationship with china..few journalists think that we have problem with them but if u see the history.. we are having one of the most peaceful border with them... how can really forget the outcome of the recently held BRIC summit ?? India is progressing on the right path and have chosen the best aircraft.. my pakistanis friend (defence analyst) will agree with that.. As rightly said the life o IAF's pilot is more precious than anything else. The potential power of India is the greatest leverage that we have..

@indians .. we do not need to see the India US relationship from th prism of pakistan which is in dire state itself

If you read the news about rejecting US aircraft then it did carry the main reason where India said US should end its relation and limit the defence cooperation with Pakistan. so all in all it was about providing better jets which US btw can if US needs money it will sell you

Jana,
You still have not understood the 'crux' of the matter. It is simply that: "India simply looked out for her own interests first" which has to with "better jets" but is not limited to that..... BTW, that is the main intent of diplomacy and statecraft.
So who said what to whom becomes secondary.

Boeing got 16billion worth contracts in India and the company has no right to whine about the MMRCA contract. The americans knew from the start they wil lose the contract

You are clearly trolling.

:) i know that . in the same breath the other party will also apply the same yardstick of own interests.

:what: who said that ??? China? where China comes from in this debate ? i was saying that Indians here are claiming that since India has money so it can bully US using defence purchase excuse.

Of Course! Obviously so; does that seem unusual to you? As I said earlier, this is the "Age of working relationships and adjustments". You still seem to be stuck in the Cold-War era mind-set of Blocs. Where one country was the "top-dog" and the others were reduced to being side-kicks or lackeys.

That is history now. And India avoided falling into that mess then, and now will work out things more easily!

.
let me put few opportunities for US

1. 1.5 trillion dollar investment in infra in next decade
2. 100 bn dollar in defence
3. 150 bn dollar in nuclear energy
4. opening of retail, defencel and insurance sector for FDI

this is just from the defence and infra sector....

strategically if u see... we are having one of the largest muslim population that will count...having amicable relation with both middle east and western and asean countries.. apart from pakistan we do not have any serious issue with any other country.. we are having a large no. of indians around the world contributing positively.. this all are creating a favorable image of india...

By 2050 we will be having the highest working population in world (40%)

Indeed we provide enough opportunities to US and all other countries around the world..

lol... whos is bullying US ?? still eating grass ?? we have shortlisted the best available Aircraft and evaluated the aircraft on 643 technical parameters after that IAF has shortlisted.... u should gather some knowledge before commenting on issues..

China is extraneous to this discussion.

Jana, why are you obssessed with Indian blackmail (sic) and bullying (sic) ? Do you find it unimaginable that a country can stand up for her own interests and safeguard them in the face of the USA ?
In any case, it is the USA that should be getting all worked-up about the (purported) Indian blackmail and bullying! :azn:

:P sure you can use the blackmail for standing up for own interests thats not unusual BUT atleast dont fool your own people by saying lives of Indian pilots are important than US jets lolzz specially when your pilots are still in flying coffins aka Mig
