A Pakistani political leader has been arrested in London on suspicion of money laundering, Pakistani media has reported.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain, 60, was arrested on Tuesday by Metropolitan Police at a residential address in northwest London.


Scotland Yard, in the briefest of statements, said: "Officers are at present searching the address. Not prepared to discuss further at this stage."

Gunfire and protests began in the Pakistani city of Hyderabad within minutes of the arrest being reported.

The MQM office in the UK, where Hussain has lived for more than two decades, said it would release an official statement later on Tuesday.

Stop talking bs please. He has been arrested on suspicion of money laundering. Not by counter terrorism squad. In UK we have Police to handle situations like this, in extreme cases there are armed Police units. But there was no armed unit so far I have heard.

You do realize that counter terrorism specifically does not mean armed response that is TST, CO19, DPG. CTC is SO15 raised from former SO 12 special branch and SO 13 ATS, so as i said CTC police does not mean armed police..... However am also confused if they have arrested him for money laundrying then why SO15 unless they are connecting it with hate speech and spread of terrorism is Pakistan
