LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has handed over party affairs to the Coordination Committee, MQM Spokesman Wasay Jalil said early Wednesday.

A statement shared by Jalil on Twitter says "Keeping in view statements made by MQM leader Farooq Sattar and other MQM members, I hand over powers of reorganisation, policy making and decision making to the Rabita Committee."

"I will continue to focus on improving my health in line with the Coordination Committee's suggestions," Hussain said.

The MQM chief claimed he was "under acute stress" due to back-to-back 'incidents', upsetting news and working on party business day and night.

The party chief also apologised for hurting the sentiments of Pakistanis due to his earlier anti-Pakistan remarks.

'Altaf not taken into confidence'
Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Khwaja Izahrul Hassan while speaking to DawnNews on Tuesday said that the MQM supremo and other party party leadership in London were not consulted prior to holding the press conference.

During a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Tuesday, Farooq Sattar announced: "From now onwards, decisions will be made in Pakistan. This message is for the London office as well as for Pakistan office-bearers; something which the Quaid won’t disagree with."

Dawn reported that Sattar, after being released from Rangers custody, spoke to party leaders, lawmakers, including some of those who were abroad, as well as the London-based members of the coordination committee, and communicated his decision to disown Hussain’s statement and take over the MQM.

Altaf Hussain has been running the day-to-day organisational affairs of the party over phone from the confines of his palatial London residence and the international secretariat for a long time, although he does not hold any office in the MQM, which is a political party registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan in the name of Dr Farooq Sattar.

Hours after the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) cut off all ties with party chief Altaf Hussain, he officially handed over complete power to the Rabita Committee.

“I am handing over complete power related to policy making, decision making as well as organisational authority to the Rabita Committee,” the MQM supremo said while praying to God to grant Rabita Committee the ability to serve the country and its people, as best as possible.

#MQM leader Altaf Hussain endorses Rabita Committee's presser; tasks RC to deal with organisational/political issues

As Hussain’s anti-Pakistan speech triggered countrywide uproar and widespread condemnation, his senior aides ‘completely disowned’ his remarks and disavowed the London-based decision-making body of the party.

“What was said against the state, the slogans raised (against Pakistan) were never a part of MQM’s policy from day one,” Farooq Sattar told journalists at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) where he was not allowed to speak by the Rangers a day earlier. He was flanked by other senior party colleagues including Nasreen Jalil, Khawaja Izharul Hassan and Amir Liaquat Hussain.

Sattar accused Hussain of repeatedly embarrassing the party. “We have decided to address his mental tension, illness or whatever condition he is suffering from,” he said.

Kamal questions Altaf’s ‘mental ailment’

“I urge MQM’s party members, respective leaders, workers and supporters to support the Rabita Committee by making it stronger. Meanwhile, following the committee’s advice, I will focus on improving my health,” Hussain’s statement read.

Reiterating his apology for the uproar which his speech stoked, the MQM chief said, “Pakistan was, is and will always remain my country.” He further added he was undergoing severe mental stress as a result of a series of events and disturbing news.

“The MQM cannot afford to suffer this damage time and time again,” Sattar said on Tuesday. Unlike the past when Altaf made similar remarks only to regret them later, Sattar said this time the public was questioning party policy.

On Monday, following Hussain’s provocative address, scores of MQM activists ransacked an ARY News office before clashing with police, leaving at least one person dead and over half a dozen injured. Whatever happened yesterday should not have happened, we condemn it,” he said.

Get rid of MQM name it's ideology. Is altaf if one goes other should go with it too

Ban MQM COMPLETELY in her Constitution it is altaf a supreme leader veto power holder

Finally, Good job. 95% of MQM supporters support this move. A.H worshippers can move to India or London. Whichever they prefer.

Now same action on Lal Masjid?:coffee:
Weldon to Amir Liaquat & Farooq Sattar ... Not Altaf Hussain ... I myself was fed up towards attitude of AH & wordings using by him for institution ... Ow he has crossed all limits and now govt should try him for article 6 and do some efforts to bring him from UK ........
@Musafir117 ,@Jaanbaz , i think we were all trolled. I was quite happy myself when i thought they got rid of Altaf Hussain, but what a joke really. Damage control from Farooq Sattar and what a joke, these people think it's easy to mislead the masses. Fact remain Altaf bhai is not going anywhere, he will continue to run MQM. So for those who were happy that MQM got rid of AH, it's still a dream. I don't get why people will continue to support this joker and his party, i think it's time to reconsider and this quote makes a lot of sense.
'Altaf Hussain in MQM, MQM is Altah Hussain....'
MQM cannot exist without AH and they don't have the balls to get rid of him either. Neither does he wishes to go anywhere.
People need to realize that Pakistan comes first, before any party before any bullshit. Government should raise this issue with British government. And it's about friggin time we ban Altaf Hussain's MQM. Thank you for your services, you have done enough for this city. We have seen enough dark days, time to get rid of this cancer.
PS: we might see this group within MQM taking a different direction, Farooq Sattar might lead it.
@Musafir117 , what was your point regarding Mustafa Kamal's press conference? He was proven right. It's so easy to mislead people.
wonderful news

Now even PSP can be merged back into MQM.... The leadership of MQM had become like a joke for everybody and I do hope they will shun all violent activities and work for better Pakistan
These made fools out of us, AH is not going anywhere. Damage control, what pathetic facade.
Finally, Good job. 95% of MQM supporters support this move. A.H worshippers can move to India or London. Whichever they prefer.
Everyone knows what AH is aiming for, the problem lies in people continuing to support this joker.

Altaf Hussain is treated like a godly entity and is perceived to be a godly entity. Yeah right, they'll get rid of him.

Even if Bhai is still in the party, the message has been sent across. In my opinion the London committee is more for name sake and the party affairs will all be run by Farooq Sattar and Co.

I don't know if its a fear of not completely shunning Altaf Hussain or a political move but from what we can see is, He is even more toothless than ever before. He is there in the party for name sake, like a monarch but the real command is taken over by Farooq Sattar and co. He will soon become meaningless for everybody when he is not even heard in the media

I think the other reason could be that his medical condition is such that you never know how long is he really going to survive. So MQM may not want to ditch him fully when they know he should be more concerned about his health and life rather than anything else

Amir liaqat who resigned from mqm, was saying that mqm Is altaf and altaf is mqm, their intentions can never be trusted again.

Nice joke. It's so easy to mislead people.
The things going to right direction, MQM Pakistan was in a crucial situation not by Rangers or any one else but AH They tried to covered up AH filth all the time even before operation start, and few top leaders were tired to covered it more Beaide Kamalu group Rashid Godel Khushbakhat Shujat Sabazwari etc were already disappointed and was looking for way out already form MQM or AH.
Now to understand MQM you might be don't know the strength behind it, MQM is a party but all its leaders have a strong hold in their areas people respect them like them and follow them be Wasey Jalil or Azizabadi Abdul Sattar Wasim Akhtar Sabzwari Amir Khan or any are representitve of their areas.
They can't cut AH suddenly as AH has his own strong group in MQM there might be internal break out start inside party if they from start totaly cut off AH and UK chapter.
As in start I mentioned the things starting change slowly but surely MQM Pakistan get rid of AH influence and its take time and passions.

Why is it that Altaf Bhai resigns atleast once a month
And still remains in charge of MQM

Why doesn't anyone accept his resignation
