Allahabad HC Permits ‘Azaan’ from Mosques Without Loudspeakers

Do you think The Secular Indian State should have any say in regulating Adhaan?

Hindus should just stop interfering in religious matters of Muslims. They should do their stuff and Muslims should do theirs. Easy, isn’t it?

We all know that loudspeakers are just the beginning for further restrictions on Muslim traditions!

muslims and hindus both should keep in mind that they should not cause discomfort to common men by their overjealous religious activities . they should not encroach upon rights of other citizens .

Agreed. But we both know that the other religion X should not interfere in the matters of religion y. Can we agree on that? It‘s not about the volume, it’s about making a minority disappear and invisible!

Nothing against regulating the Volume of the Azaan, adjustments of the volume are everydays Business in most Muslim countries.

When your freedom encroaches on the freedom of the others, then it is no longer a legitimate right.

The Allahabad High Court on Friday, 15 May allowed 'azaan' from mosques but said that the use of loudspeakers could not be permitted. The court said that 'azaan' was a part of Islam but using loudspeakers were not a part of the religion.

The bench comprising Justice Shashikant Gupta and Justice Ajit Kumar gave this ruling on separate petitions field by BSP MP Afzal Ansari and Syed Mohd Faizal of Farrukhabad.

The court said that using loudspeakers for ‘azaan’ was an infringement on the rights of others since it disturbed their sleep. The rights of one person must not infringe on the rights of others, the court observed.

The court allowed the 'muezzin' of the mosques to hold 'azaan' without loudspeakers. The court also asked the chief secretary to inform all district magistrates of the order accordingly.

It may be recalled that the district administration of Ghazipur had banned the use of loudspeakers for 'azaan' and BSP MP Afzal Ansari had written to the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Justice Govind Mathura in this regard.

Now the Indian HCs will decide what is an essential part of Islam and what is not. (my emphasis)
This means more musjids will be constructed looool. Jahil RSS

Imagine being in Paksitan and then hearing christian communities or Hindu communites inviting on loudspeaker to come to their temple/church for prayers, do you think our people would be tolerant of this? I believe Indian hindus have been much more tolerant in this regard. Our own people would have set those temples or churches on fire. We should look at ourselves first before pointing fingers.

This is one thing i actually agree with the court. Its easy to mock loud speakers in hindu festivals etc. But they are very weak arguments. No matter how beautiful an azan is a man is entitled to quietness especially early in mornings. They are also entitled not forced to listen to something which they either not believe in or actually actively disbelieve in .

Muslims especially in south asia made islam all about these loud speakers, costumes (sherwani/shalwar kameez), urdu etc. This bogged them down in silly battles, increased hostility to them from local language groups in india while they got weakened .

I live in the UK and azaan is not broadcast on loudspeakers. It would be considered intrusive in my opinion, especially to the non Muslims living near Masjids. Similarly I don't hear church bells or anything of the sort.

When I visit Muslim countries it is a pleasure to hear the azaan in public places - an audio reminder that it is time to pray and also delivered in a way that moves the heart.

Indian situation is unique. India is and isn't a Muslim country. Muslims have ruled India for hundreds of years, India is home to the 3rd argest Muslim population in the world. Yet Muslims are a minority in India and the rulers of India are rabidly hateful of Islam and muslims.

I think a sensible compromise should be had.

1. Fajr and isha azaan should not be on loudspeaker (that is the pre dawn prayer and the night prayer).

2. Azaan for the 3 daytime prayers can be on loudspeaker but should be coordinated. The vast majority of masjids in India are of the hanafi fiqh, they should agree a timetable and do the azaan at the same time, rather than the 20 minutes of random azaans you get in Pakistan (assume its the same in India). They coordinate azaan on Turkey and it sounds incredible.

Of course the azaan realistically is a non issue. This is just hinduvta India imposing itself on its cucked minority population.

If Indians are so concerned about noise pollution why not ban the use of horns on the road unless it is required in an emergency.

I doubt if this happens in the next hundred years.

Personally, I hate silence. I need sound around me and it makes me happy and safe.
