Hey Jana.. Have you been to Chennai? I am from Chennai.
Very few , mostly men eat beef in road side shops. They never cook at home. Beef is more accepted in Kerala. More than the 'sacred' factor, people think beef is unhealthy and unclean ,how pork is for Muslims. Most of them don't know that it is actually considered scared, at least in Tamil Nadu.

Yes been to Chennai . I liked some dishes there though its very different food there. One dish was something called with the word mallai that was good but i still did not get what it was.


But i did not like the roti there it was small and costly very costly and i came to know wheat was a costly item there.

As far as unclean part about Beef is concerned i have NOT read it in Hindu holy texts or books as far as my study of these books is concerned it is not forbidden.

LOL. I lived near China Town in San Francisco. They have some of the weirdest stuff hanging in their shops. Frog legs were the most normal looking meat there. so I tried it. It actually tasted pretty good, except that it smelt kinda weird while cleaning.

It is a common misconception. They know they should not eat beef and its bad. But they don't know the reason. If someone says they ate beef people will go 'yuck'. Hindus don't really read their scriptures. so they would blindly practice without knowing the reason.

And yes. Roti and in general, the North India/ Pakistani food is bad in Chennai except for a few places. North India/ Pakistani is much better in US for that matter.

But i after a thorough roaming found a Punjabi dhaba in Chennai and at last found some tandori roti there with daal makhni that was good.


The dosa in Delhi i tried was a big time failure and i was sad why i did not had it in Chennai .

I wanna eat Titar, everyone praised meat of this bird.

I have eaten it many times you will find it in some old restaurants or dhabas where they specialise in it.......I heard it takes effort to catch them.....it's little different and tastes good....costs little high.....but if you are on a trip with friends......then do try it sometime.......

My mom will kill me if she finds out about it.....

Misconceptions exist everywhere. If you did a similar survey about how many people from Pakistan drank alcohol a little, you'll find surprising answers.

However as the majority goes, its safe to say we don't drink alcohol and you don't eat meat. Its just who you are and its just who we are why feel the need to explain or negate that.
