What's new

Al-Khalid II has been put to sleep .

So the al-Khalid's we saw during the military parade was the AK1 or the basic AK? I can't tell any difference between them. AK needs a new design tbh. It seems kind of outdated.

Well it was a setback. They was about reveal Al-Khalid II in 2014 IDEAS with planned production from 2015. But it got dealyed to 2016 and now entire project put on hold

Put on hold to be replaced/changed by a new system, still to be based on MBT-3000 and AK-I upgrades. This is what i have been hearing. Now initially that Heavily Modified tank was called AK-2. Then came the MBT-3000 and PA wanted that. So things changed slightly so that the new tank was now being called Al-Haider and was a version of MBT3000 with quite a few components from AK-1 (upgrades) for component commonality.
Now we can either say that AK-2 is canceled or we can say that it have now become Al-Haider MBT. This stated, the next thing is status of Al-Haider. As per various reports, MBT-3000 is being evaluated by PA (some pics have surfaced and some reports suggest that we have got a few examples that PA is testing in difference conditions the tank will eventually be operating in once inducted). The AK-1 upgrades are underway as you have stated and again, various other reference are available. these two things make the core of Al Hiader so we can safely say that this project is running. At what pace, is a different story. The work have been very slow, reason, @Dazzler have explained in details. PA seems to be of mind set that Al Haider will be an over kill and the same funds should be utilized in other places where there is most need of up gradation and the current tank fleet is more then capable of handling the current fleet of adversary so there wont be any rush.

Zarvan zarvan I apologies that A** Hole came out straight hahahaha but seriously i feel sorry for You trying to defend the right info and everyone is saying al khalid this and that .Zarvan is right there is no AL-KHALID 2 . But there is a heavy up gradation program .

But there is MBT 3000 . And we shall see it Inshallah !
Completely wrong info AK I is the new project and its still running and @Bratva yes initially those upgrades were called AK I but name was reversed back to AK and all previously produced Tanks were also upgraded to that standard and new project which was started was named AK I and its not rolled back in fact its pretty much completed and HIT is not idiot to roll back a project which they have almost completed.

@Bratva was not saying that AK1 have been rolled back. As far as i understood from his post he is saying that AK2 upgrades have been rolled back. That i have addressed in above post as per my information.

This is a good thing and should not be viewed as negative information. I will update this further when I have little more time as to why that is a good development.

Kindly elaborate.............

Sir I am talking same thing that AK 2 is officially called AK I. The upgrades which were done in 2010 were yes initially called AK I but later name was reversed back to AK. The new Tank is AK I which some members here are calling AK II and that is not put to sleep in fact its pretty much completed.

After having an hourly long discussion with a senior contact at HIT. This sad news was revealed to me that the al-khalid 2 has been temporarily put on hold and right now mass production of Al khalid 1 will continue with upgrading. The Al-khalid 2 is becoming more costly to bear. Its survival depends upon the top brass sitting in GHQ

He informed me that don't be surprised if MBT 3000 is revealed as Al-khalid 2.

:(

Keep developing the design and new technologies so that as and where You decide to build AK2 it may emerge as a better tank.

That "rusty old" tank is the best in the region and can compete and hold on against any tank in the world.. And has been sold to several countries . It's watered down variant VT-1A sold to Myanmar,Bangladesh.. MBT-2000 to Morocco,Peru .. AK-I to KSA...

And it was upgraded into AK-I variant .... And 450 were in service meanwhile 50 more were in order when the MODP report was published that's 500 tanks... By the end of 2015!

As for Turkish Tank .. Mind telling us how trumps AK-I on awareness etx ? Just like Altay AK is also equipped with an advanced battle management system ... Data link and UAV connectivity .... Sights ? Uses top o the line European sights .. Hunter killer ? gets from Lecrec.... Etc etc..

P.S: Hope you know that most of Turkish mega projects themselves are based on existing platforms .. t-129 is based on A-129... altay borrows heavily from Korean K2?... Firtina SPG is also based on Korean SPG..

Im no dismissing Turkish tech.. But cancelling your own project and getting Foriegn weapon makes no fukin sense !

Unless you love logistically nightmare and kill your own industry!... Cooperation makes more sense (which we already are.. Accordin to HIT official (interview)... They might equip it with the same systems as Altay.. (Cost effective than going for French options).

Also it is not 100% confirmation of AK-II project getting frozen ... MBT - 3000 was only offered to Pak doesn't mean PA has signed a deal or getting it!
Sir, There was a lighter tank that China started to manufacture so that it can be airlifted and sent to high elevation areas.

If I may, Pakistan is fighting a war in high elevated battlefields with old equipment that is going to be replaced. Is it not possible that Pakistan Army is thinking of acquiring these and hence they have put Al-Khalid 2 to sleep.

halting the programme mean no advancement in terms of experience so they should keep it continue...

Here is why....

Wt* why :o: is it good thing.

Because Chinese Technology is moving at a much faster pace than our decision making as well as our Budgets availability. As a result , we are opting for better and more futuristic Military Hardware.

We did not have immediate funds for J10-B , so in the mean time Aesa Radars got smaller and now we are planning on getting Aesa advantage on our JF-17 Blk 3 ( more bang for lesser Bucks), as well as leapfrogging to 5th Generation J-31.

I am certain that similar experience is in the making for Al-Khalid II.

Maybe MBT 3000 / VT4 could be new Al-Khalid II

Kindly elaborate.............

With Pleasure...

I also had same feeling after talking to an Army Officer on twitter few months back, although he said MBT-3000 should be Al-Haider but on my question he said it can be AK-2 too.
