AKUH doctor 'sacked' over sending FB friend request to Sharmeen Obaid's sister

He was not "someone", he was the doctor treating that woman. He should have known how to maintain a professional relationship with his patients. It is definitely harassment if a doctor sends friend requests to his patient.

There are responsibilities one has to carry in a work environment. He messed up and paid for it.

In case you aren't aware of it work ethics aren't exactly written in stone here in Pakistan. And you need to look up the meaning of harassment on google. Harassment isn't something you can get away from with a click of a button. A friend request is though.

Man this is so f***d up. Its a perfect time for Ms Sharmeen to get some attention since harassment issue is trending these days in media, thanks to that pervert Harvey Weinstein. Look how purposefully she hash tagged '#Pakistan' in her tweet.

This also shows the influence of foreign powers on Pakistan police!!!

Haha. Mate. What some creepy doc trying to add a woman on his FB got to do with the state of Pakistan?

By all means, she can express her anger or what not by targeting that INDIVIDUAL. doc didn't add her sis "in the name of Pakistan " neither did state instigated him to contact her on FB. Keep Pakistan OUT of the diatribes.

She is a maggot, got track record of bringing Pakistan good name in bad repute on forigen soil, full of herself when she mentioned her family and how the doc messed with wrong people, she needs to be put in her place.

She does it because it is her cash-cow so she is milking it. Check the very few Pakistanis who are loved by the western media speaking against Pakistan, put down the country and the nation down, highlight the negative things and exaggerate to make it look like the national character.

Well this Freudian slip "wrong people" is very right. These are wrong women and a wrong family. "wrong == bad" who sell their country for some moments of fame and for some pennies. But it is Pakistan, here such people abound and she will be respected and honoured as is Malala Yusuf Zai.

Another thing I hated in her tweets was, criticizing Pakistan and boundaries in Pakistan. What does this ‘friend request’ has to do with Pakistan’s norms & boundaries?
She just wants more money from west and probably another nobel prize and for these hypocrites bashing your own country is the best way to go.
If that happens in any other country other than Pakistan, this same person will call it “liberalism”.
She's not a liberal she's a hypocrite pls don't call such people "Liberal".
I’m so done with these wannabe feminists. They are actually being the reason to damage the real issue of “women rights”.
So true!
She will get another Oscar for bashing Pakistan.
Exactly
"wrong women in the wrong family' .... WTF!! :sarcastic:
Sounded like Altaf Bhai for a moment....

:omghaha:

I've 22 friend requests i will tell these people who they messed up with :frown:

Abroad at least, both data protection laws and medical profession guidelines prohibit it strictly, and the doctor would not only be fired, but could potentially lose their license and go to jail.

----
Because, had this occurred in gora-land:

1- There would be an investigation on how the doctor found their FB profile in the first place?
Either they stalked a patient on FB (unlikely but very creepy and and a legal issue on its own), or they got their contact info from the front desk (more likely, and could lead to a data privacy investigation)

2- Doctors MUST seek consent before contact with patients through informal channels, such as social media.
Clearly the Celebrity's sister had come through emergency, and was certainly NOT in an position to be doing so.

3- Doctors MUST maintain separate professional and personal social media profiles, and can only contact their patients (AFTER consent) from their professional profile.
Clearly There is no indication this happened here. Because if he were the type to maintain a professional profile, he would also realise not to initiate contact before consent.
-

First of all that's only the guideline and says "avoid friending with patients and clients". It does not suggest any punitive action. Secondly, it has no legal or official value in Pakistan. Thirdly, the in developed countries, there is a proper information handling system and Drs. Communicate with the patients through that system but in Pakistan patients directly contact with the Dr.

I can understand that perhaps she felt uncomfortable so she could block him and talk to him and, if he still insisted, she should have complained against him but firing is too extreme. He should have been warned. But why her sister the "celebrity" abused the whole nation for an individual act and brought the issue to twitter? and then her use of "wrong women and wrong family" is very arrogant and disgusting as if other women and families are not respectable?

Why not? On what basis? What is there to stop him from doing that? If that insecure woman cannot handle a simple friend request on a social media, she shouldn't have joined it in the first place. The doctor used a privilege available to him the insecure girl should have used her privilege to decline the request .......... simple as that. The problem with false liberals is they are intolerant, ignorant extremists themselves.
Ap to gormint kay jawayi hain bhai sahab apko pata hy apka client sirf aik number hay aik number ko aik number ki tarah treat karo full stop

WTF..? srsly? What is wrong with Pakistani girls? have you ever studied in university? I have found girls THERKIER than boys,, and you should stand for all gays and lesbians in Pakistan, lolz because that's where it would be heading.... :sarcastic:
what?

For people who were celebrating her Oscar wins, she starts "#Pakistan" has zero boundaries............effing bitch

KARACHI:

A doctor at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) Karachi has allegedly been fired for sending a Facebook friend request to one of his patients.
The patient is Oscar-winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s sister. Sharmeen took to social media and expressed her disapproval of the incident.

She wrote that her sister went to the AKU emergency and doctor who tended to her tried to add her on Facebook.

She added that the doctor had messed with the wrong women in the wrong family and she would definitely report him as harassment needed to be stopped.

Ali Moeen Nawazish, a young blogger, shared a post of a message written to him allegedly by the doctor’s friend, wherein the latter laments the firing of a kind, hardworking father of four.
The AKUH administration, however, neither confirmed nor denied the development.

“The AKUH always maintains the highest standards of confidentiality and will not release any information on either employees or patients,” the spokesperson told The Express Tribune.

Nighat Dad, lawyer and founder of Digital Rights Foundation, said she considered this harassment. “It’s a breach of confidentiality between a doctor and his patient,” she told The Express Tribune.

However, she added that the hospital’s response was too harsh.

“Firing the doctor isn’t a solution to this problem,” she maintained.

Abdul Hameed Bhutto, the in-charge of the FIA cyber crime cell Karachi, said sending a Facebook friend request, which could either be accepted or rejected, was not harassment.

This, he added, could not be contested in any court under the Pakistan Electronic Crime Act introduced in 2016.

“Blackmailing or sending obscene material through messages or posts is considered harassment, which in this case has not been done,” Bhutto maintained.

According to the Supreme Court lawyer Khalil Ahmed Siddiqui, sending an add request on social media does not fall under any definition of harassment. “It’s not an offence,” he added.

However, he pointed out, the act could be against the AKUH’s code of conduct.

Who cares about boundaries when it's with white men?

Gotta love the duplicity of these feminist pakistani liberals.

Doctors are also tharki aren't they .. . Hahah..

Tharki girls can go around taking pictures of chaiwalas, but god forbid a doctor sent a female an online friend request.

LOL

If this image is correct, and these are the two sisters ........ well I would like to hang the doctor upside down (for his taste of women and that too if he wanted to be tharki, jamahir's taste is far more better than this doc in that case).

My taste is definitely better than his, but what the lady in question should have done is politely refused his wish instead of using her sister's high profile.
