Iran's airforce has lost its place as a priority ever since Iran-Iraq war. During that war Iran realized that no matter how advanced your arsenal is, if you can'd produce them domestically, then they are useless in an all out war.

That's why Iran's attention changed to weapons that could have been built in Iran and still would be effective against Iran's potential opponents in the region.

The first priority went to Iran's missile program. That's why the progress in this field has been so significant.

2nd priority was the navy. Safeguarding Iran's interests in Persian gulf and adjacent seas were of out most importance.

3rd, and in order to make up for the short comings of an aging air fleet, Radars and AA missiles were chosen as a deterrence. However, this is still away from making a big contribution to Iran's deterrence.

That's why you never see any significant move in terms of new developments in Iran's airforce.

Iran needs to invest on something else, Saeqhe isnt much of anything.
Azarakhsh and Saegheh were seen as the first steps in developing this industry in Iran, plus doing some ground attack missions, and trainings. Then, Iran worked on M-ATF project with Russia which the cooperation finished long time ago. Then Iran developed Shafaq from M-ATF. Now there are going to be more cooperation with Russia, plus buying some jets from Russia with ToT and building some of them in Iran.

Bro, why isn't saegheh "much of an anything"? Saegheh with modern avionics would be a decent light fighter. There is nothing wrong with the F-5 template. But as rmi5 said, seaghe was just a start for Iran.

This aircraft is good for training, i wouldn't count on it to fight a conflict except from point defense duties.

Platform of F-5 itself, was not bad. It was later developed into F-20 by USA.

If Iran can build something like the F-20 Tigershark then it would be considered a huge leap and development. The F-20 is said to rival the F-16 back then as an intermediate fourth generation multirole fighter jet. It even was cancelled because it was a danger to potential sales of the F-16s. However neither Saegheh and Azarakhsh come close to it considering its current specs.

Good strategy for a nation under sanction.

Actually, we don't know what are the current specs except for some general stuff. We cannot claim that it is comparable to F-20, either. I think there is no point in going to that direction either, because apparently Iran has started negotiations with Russians to revive the old plan of Khatami administration which was about importing Su-30 with ToT, and license production, and apparently Russians are very interested in this plan, as well. It can fulfill Iran's needs regarding fourth generation, and inceptor jets. For other missions such as training, ground attacks, ... Shafaq is under development. For CAS, more frogfoots can be imported, or this role can be transferred to some other jets.

Unfortunately it seems to be true!

Babak Taghvaee is credible source. Why do they lie when it will become known eventually. That is not smart policy!

Babak is a knowledgable person but he is famous for pulling many things out of his *** like our dear @(lets not mention his name ;) )

I wanted to ask Irani members here for some days, why they don't like Taghvee?
