NEW DELHI, 10 APRIL: India and France are expected to soon ink an agreement on the multi-billion dollar Rafale fighter aircraft deal where the French Government would be assuring its Indian counterpart about its support for the contract process.
India and France are planning to sign an agreement on the Rafale fighter aircraft deal where the French side would be giving its undertaking for its support for the contract process for procuring 126 combat, sources told PTI here.
A French team would soon be visiting India for finalising the agreement between the two sides on the issue, they said. Sources said such an agreement is provided for in the Request for Proposal (RFP) under which the country where the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) is located has to provide an umbrella cover to the deal.
India and French firm Dassault Aviation are negotiating the deal for supplying 126 of Rafale fight aircraft to the IAF where serious differences have cropped up over certain contractual obligations. The two sides have for the time being decided to keep aside contentious issues and finalise other issues such as pricing and support services involved in the deal.
The French Government officials are learnt to have intervened in the contract negotiations to get four of its companies to sign one composite contract with the Indian side for the all the systems including the weapons package for the contract.
India has earmarked US$ 10 billion for the aircraft deal but the final price of the contract would be arrived at after the negotiations get over.
