Ahmadinejad wants better India ties, warns of global collapse
Updated on Thursday, March 10, 2011, 14:58

Tehran: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has warned that "the world's ruling system is on the verge of collapse" as he sought to strengthen ties with India for a global "future system based on justice and friendship".

Ahmadinejad met visiting India's National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon and said: "Iran and India following a humane view on international relations should make efforts for establishment of the world's future system based on justice and friendship."

"The world's ruling system is on the verge of collapse and what is important is the way of formation of future system," he said.

"Iran and India are two independent countries which play a leading part in international ties," he added.

Ahmadinejad also called for employment of all potentials to boost the level of bilateral cooperation with India, Iran's semi-official news agency, reported.

Menon on his part said cooperation with Iran is one of priorities for his country. "India is after establishment of strategic and all-out relations with Iran," the Indian official said. The Indian official also stressed further ties between the two countries in other fields.

Menon arrived in Tehran carrying a letter from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh addressed to Ahmadinejad. The contents of the letter have not been made public.

Iran has shown interest to improve ties with India in recent weeks.

The compulsions of the global oil market put Iran above Saudi Arabia as the biggest source of India's oil needs in 2009. Oil accounts for 75 percent of India-Iran trade.

^^^ diplomacy is give and take. as india gets more closer to US, it is in danger of drifting away from iran. we have to maintain close relations with both of them. if we cant do that, then i do not need those diplomats sitting in new delhi/washington/tehran.

I love Iran and Persian culture because i hail from the most Persian place probably in the world and India after Persia thats Lucknow! My girlfriend is also hails originally from Iran!!!

I thin we need US but we cannot let injustice to Iran. Nobody is ever listening to what they are saying. This negligence will force them to build weapons which they might not even possess. Best thing is to talk and we should be the one to bring all parties on table as we now have a decent relationship with all parties (US, Middle East, Israel and Iran).

Iranian youth hates him

There r thousands of Iranian students studying in India,u can ask any1 of them

Buddy Iranian students in India dont shape the diplomatic initiatives of Iran.

They are just Iranian students in India.

It is the clergy in Iran that shapes up its diplomatic decisions and I am just saying if you want good relations with India they should mind their own business on Kashmir.

It goes for any nation not Iran alone.

Yeah ! the biggest issue is ayatollah spitting BS about kashmir. Otherwise I dont think IRAN to be any bad country. They are a good people! We also want good relationship with them

only because Pakistan's has poor foreign policy in case of Iran...

I disagree with Karthic.

In diplomacy, what you speak in public doesn't count. Backroom talks count.

But Ayotollah is a high clergy in Shia sect and there are ppl who listen to him.

So it counts. And like me most people count the Ayotollah as the real power in Iran and coming from his mouth it definitely counts.

If it did not count the Indian FO would not have cared to rebutt his statements.

my caste goes back in time to persia so techinically my forefathers come from that land
