Don't worry its not going to happen. This was just an idea some politician had. Urdu and English will remain the national languages of Pakistan

I am certainly not worried even if arabic becomes paksitan's language. we have got enough issues in our own home to worry about it.:no::no::no::no:

Lol I did't mean literally, its just a figure of speech :)

We do not recognize this gentleman's authority to talk about a very complex subject as national language. He is no body to us. I do not know about Pubjab but no one will accept Arabic as the national language in Sindh and this will cause massive explosions which is beyond imagination. Sindhis will never accept any language other than Urdu and Sindhi to be used at the official level in Sindh. Period.

To all those advocating Arabic , do you want to destroy Pakistan once again ?

Noone will accept Arabic in Punjab either. Urdu is one language that binds us. Why should we change it?

Dari and Farsi are exactly the same language with some small amount of vocabulary differences in iran, afghanistan and central asians, and off course the difference in accent. There is no any grammatical differences between, as they are the same language. we shouldnt forget that 4 decades ago the language in Afghanistan used to be called Farsi. they changed it to Dari for some political reasons which doenst have much of acadamic value. Having different vocabularies in differnt countries which speak the same language is very normal, you can see this in every part of the world, as you mentioned arabic language.

Yes, I do know they are the same tongue and are in fact differing dialects at their best with the primary difference in phonology alone supplemented by some very minor verbal adjustments. I use the term for explanatory purposes only. The term "Dari" has been purposely promoted by the government of Afghanistan due to political reasons with the name-change arriving in 1964. A similar case follows with "Tajiki" which was known as "Zabon Farsi" to it's speakers until the 1920s when the term was officially substituted when Tajikistan became a Soviet socialist republic.

^^^ huhh does persian make sense??? if we learn persian to strengthen our relation ship with the neighbour, why dont our neighbours learn urdu??? and why dont we learn pushto also?? lol

I could not complete what I said yesterday. However the reason for supporting Persian is that it is a language spoken by our brethren in baluchistan and NWFP. It links us to Iran and Afghanistan. Secondly, to increase the richness of Urdu itself, persian has been used for centuries, and as a consequences, all the poets have a high content of persian in their Poetry.
What happened as a result of that decision was a sheer consequence of our leaders having been British trained and of that frame of mind. Essentially it is a safeguard valve which the gentiles of those times created around them to maintain their supremacy and therefore essentially set up the class divide that has afflicted us today. The irony of it is that it is based on education, and where you acquire it.
As a result of these changes we have lost our identiity. At least with the adoption of Hindi, the people of India have to a certain extent maintained their national identity. It could be debated whether we would have turned into second class arabs or Persians if we had persued the other course, but at least we would have had a cause to fight. We have instead chosen to immulate those whom we are in awe of and are blindly hurtling towards westernization without thinking of the consequences of such a move. This is a very worrying trend and the divide between the "elites" and the masses will lead to more deprivation and strife. We could hhave avoided this with a bit more of rationalization of our education policies

Well Aga Khan has the right to express his views but majority will not accept it. Most Pakistanis are able to speak Urdu and this is the language which binds us. I am in favour of promotional of provincial languages, not Arabic which in my opinion is definitely a foreign language. True that it it's the language of Holy Quran but translation is available in many languages so one can easily understand it if one wants to.
Basically people do read Holy Quran but hardly give time to understand it. That's where the problem arises.

Mehru
Tell me inspite of translations being available how many of us have understood or read the Quran. This is precisely the point i am trying to get through.YOu cant understand the Quran unless you have a basis of the language inculcated in you.

Sanskrit is the mother of all indo-european language both latin and greek is derived from sanskrit.

India was the mother of our race and Sanskrit the mother of Europe's languages. She was the mother of our philosophy, mother through the Arabs, of much of our mathematics, mother through Buddha, of the ideals embodied in Christianity, mother through village communities of self-government and democracy. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all."

Purely taking Quranic teaching as our guide, there should not be a concept of nations but the concept of Ummah. You can exist and have cultural and lingistic variation, but to divide yourself on the basis of your ethnicity is not right. If you take this concept ahead, then the rules and regulations governing us should be based on Quran and Sunnah .Inspite of the variations in Fiqh, the basic spirit of Islam is what keeps you together. By inference Arabic suddenly assumes great importance as a common language that binds us together.
take the line of division on the basis of ethnicity and you go down a loosing streak with progressive divisions with each group becoming so small, that it can easily be gobbled up.This has been done to us as an ummah by design and the arab nations are the worst culprits in this regards. However looking ahead if we are to survive , we need common grounds to cohese and therefore the suggestion of Arabic.
