Pakistan’s former ODI skipper Waqar Younis who was mentoring the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) team Sylhet Sixers has revealed that he now considers Bangladesh his second home after his motherland. The Sylhet franchise was knocked out of the tournament after they failed to register a win against Shoaib Malik led Comilla Victorians.

During his playing days the 46-year-old played 2 Tests in Bangladesh and he has 12 wickets to his name with an average of 11.41. He stated that he has pleasant as well as forgettable memories associated with the country and there are too many for him to single out just one.

“I have good and bad memories in Bangladesh. I have good memories of playing here too. I have great memories of Dhaka. Dhaka is an excellent city for me. Apart from here, I have spent good times in Sylhet, Khulna, and Chittagong too. Bangladesh is like my home after Pakistan. I have so many good memories that I don’t want to mention any particular memory,” Younis was quoted as saying by bdcrictime.com.

He was the head coach of Pakistan when Bangladesh had whitewashed the Men in Green on the limited-overs tour of the neighbouring country. Citing that as one of the bad memory associated with the country, the legendary pacer added, “I have some bad memories here as well. Pakistan has been whitewashed here by Bangladesh. At that time, I was Pakistan’s head coach. So its a very painful memory.”

Open to be Bangladesh coach?
Detailing the improvement in Bangladesh cricket, Waqar felt that they were the better side when they beat Pakistan. “In one word, Bangladesh played excellent cricket in that time. They played better cricket than us as a team. I hope that Bangladesh will progress more day by day,” he further mentioned.

Younis was also asked if he would be willing to take up the coaching job for the Bangladesh team. He said he is not sure about what he is going to do next as he is already has a lot of commitments as a commentator and mentor in the PSL.

“To be honest, I don’t know what I will do if I get the proposal. I am spending good time where I am now. I work as a coach in some teams, I do commentary too, I am roaming around the cricket world,” he concluded.

He is loved by Bangladeshi people along with Shahid Afridi and Wasim Akram.

A warm, friendly encounter between Shahid Afridi and Tamim Iqbal in BPL.:-)

hasina wajid will ban him on entering in bangladesh. she is full of hatred towards pakistan and for obvious reasons but then she should hate bangla army too

Bangladesh could have a great friend in Pakistan if it wants to. I hope the fixation of events with 71 comes to a closure fast in Bangladesh. Whatever real or perceived wrongs happened in the past, should not prevent a country in its present day from looking after its own interests. Germans and French are best friends today. 70/80 years ago they were at each other throats. As said current Pakistanis hold nothing against Bangladeshis and we are glad that it is progressing and prospering. If Bangladesh wants it can get a real friend in Pakistan.
