that main thing in the center, inside is some sort of meteorite shard, right ?

its a space rock, kinda like some "idol" almost. then.

us gangus also revere many natural rock formations etc with various legends attached to them.
An Idol is an avatar/representation of a deity. The black stone (what you call the meteorite shard), is not worshipped. Neither is the Kaaba (the black cubic building) They are simply revered.

The Kaaba simply provides a single point where all muslims face when praying. It's not the subject of the worship.

I don't see any contradictions from @hembo here. Do you mind expanding on that?

I am assuming you are an atheist, but even before that, your only window into spirituality would have been hinduism. Confusing stuff. So your lack of appreciation is understandable. (but not your fault)
Somewhere between atheist and agnostic but not hostile to the very idea of religion. I'm a fan of a lot of the lore.

Also been to Buddhist meditation retreats, to Church for mass a few times, to Hazrat Nizamuddin dargah for jumma raat, and the golden temple

apart from a few Hindu temple/pilgrimage spots as well... and obvsly the family do celebrate diwali, holi etc

Awww. I'd hate to imagine you burning in hell for eternity. :D You've grown on me.

Okay. Looks like there is hope. We'll get there. :D

It's good that you are open minded and not a militant atheist. Those, I hold right up there with hindutvawadis.

There is a reason that this particular gentleman is on my ignore list. BTW, virus, per your recommendation, had been removed from that small list of mine. Starting to enjoy his whimsical sense of humor even.

Nobody bows down to any rock. Neither prays to it

All muslims world over pray in direction of Kaaba, that black main thing in the center

Then there is Hajr e Aswad, which we muslims believe is stone from heaven and hence rever it and kiss it

Nobody worships Kaaba or Hajr e Aswad

Nobody bows down to any idol in Makkah

Oh no? What is this paganistic ritual then? We know who the real chutyas are:

Christians and Jews are not different. Bowing and kissing idols of Jesus and Mary in the Churches. Jews bowing and kissing the Western wall. It is idolatry.

The masses find it tough to practice true monotheism which is on a purely mental level and need a physical object to focus their attention on and yardstick to measure their piety to form a hierarchy of superiority. They don't understand the test is how to practice detachment with belief in a higher power and conviction on being able to cross over into another dimension after death for a new experience.

The rest is just noise in the business of religion.

It's not enough for humans to simply believe. They need something to touch and feel. So many of these pre-Islamic paganistic rituals have been revived, but rebranded under the label of "Islamic"

So kissing hajr e aswad is idol worship according to you confused clowns???

What next? Kissing your child is idol worship??

You guys have literally zero knowledge about Islam and now you are issuing fatwas about idol worship??

Anyways people kiss this stone because Prophet Muhammad SAW kissed it and not because they consider it their god or something

Nobody asks prayers from that black stone. Nobody asks help from that black stone. Muslims rever it as per Prophet Muhammad SAW Sunnah and nothing more

Anyways here is what Second Caliph of Islam said about kissing hajr e aswad

Al-Bukhārī reports that ʿUmar – Allāh be pleased with him – came to the Black Stone (performing ṭawāf, circumambulation), kissed it, and said, “I know that you are a stone, you do not cause benefit or harm; and if it were not that I had seen Allāh’s Messenger – peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him – kiss you, I would never have kissed you.”

Al-Bukhārī, Al-Ṣaḥīḥ, Chapter on what has been said about the Black Stone.

See? That is no idol worship. It is just reverence as per Prophet Sunnah

So you confused atheists are going to explain monotheism for Muslims???

Submission to God who created us is part of natural consciousness. It's recognition of a truth - everything will perish except God. Humans live very short time. The universe is dying as well. Moon is drifting away, Earth's rotation is slowing, the magnetic field is declining, and the sun is losing fuel. Won't last forever. Eventually, all stars in the universe will die and the universe will be stretched into total darkness. There is no way out except through God who created it.

It's not enough for humans to simply believe. They need something to touch and feel. So many of these pre-Islamic paganistic rituals have been revived, but rebranded under the label of "Islamic"
Its clear you have no idea about Islam.
