They have fought and proven themselves in multiple conflicts since independence. They are pioneers of various tactics and methods of warfare in modern times. I do not think this is an area in which WE can talk them down. Afghanistan wasn't a proving ground for anything but COIN.

They are however upset due to the fact that they were unable to reshape political landscape of Afghanistan even though they spent years trying to do it. Deep down they realize that they did not had many options and Ashraf Ghani proved corrupt beyond measure. Afghan Taliban continued to find support and recruits from within Afghanistan and proved Americans wrong.

Pakistani representation in USA is a lot to be desired unfortunately. Husain Haqqani became a turncoat in particular.

Pakistan itself does not have a coherent narrative for Afghanistan and American mission in Afghanistan. This is something that Maj. Gen. Tariq Khan have also pointed out in his publications.

WE should be asserting how Pakistan helped dismantle Al-Qaeda Network in the region. WE should be asserting that Afghan Taliban are locals and have support. WE should be asserting that decoupling of Afghan Taliban and Al-Qaeda Network is valid consideration, and views of the Afghan Taliban have also shifted. There government should be given a fair chance now. Now let us clean terrorist leftovers.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi Tuesday regretted that the United States has not recognised Pakistan’s supportive role during Afghanistan-related developments, saying “no matter what we do. It’s never enough.”

Look, it's no point in playing victim and crying like kids. Pakistani establishment, despite it's flaws has done fairly well. It is easy to be critic from outside.

With my own eyes I have seen servants in Islamabad - young men being abused by the lady of the house. One of these servants came from Rawalakot region of AJK. I actually had chat with this young man [this is back in 1989 and he was about my age] as to why he put up with the abuse. His reply? His family was poor and his income went back to the village to feed his elderly parents and unmarried sisters. What appeared to me as 'appeasement' was actual brutal reality of life. He simply had no choice. Had he been in UK the same guy would have been driving around in a kitted up Subaru and acting cocky. But not so in the circumstances he was trapped in.

The fact is in Pakistan most people do not pay taxes, don't bother working hard, don't bother picking up the best education possible, don't bother establisahing global multinationals, don't bother building up global influence. Instead Pakistan is just a near bankrupt state dependant on IMF bailouts. 220 million Pakistan has nothing to offer the world other than Islamic radicals and terrorists. 220 million people export is less than a small city in UK.

The result of this is global powers can do what they want. They can't do it with India which has huge global footprint and influence - positive influence. Exports, IT expertise, Bollywood soft image, Indian food, mulinationals like TATA that own Jaguar etc in UK. Steel companies like Mittal, a diaspora in UK and USA that has reached into the ruling elites of those countries. Take Kamal Harris who is of part Indian extracton, Fareed Zakaria of CNN. In UK Boris's goverenment has at least 4 Indian heritage people in top posts. I could go in.

These are realities that no one can navigate around until the basic issues are resolved. Beggers can't be choosers. End of day the plight of Pakistan lies squarely on the awaam. The establishment merely reflects that reality.
