Afghan withdrawal would hurt India: McCain

You do remember what that path to victory in Afghanistan has done to your country. Looking back, a lot of Pakistanis would consider that as a victory they could have done without.

What if this victory also goes the same way..??

Though I dont believe US is going anywhere anytime soon..

the US presence has done to our country it is today, the 90s decade was the golden age for pakistan, though our democarcy was still bad that time.., we attacked kargil and we had almost won that war it it was not for uncle sam bully..

we were enjoying relations with talibans in 90s, and they were our friends

afghanistan is our backyard, we have to formulate policies to keep it and pakistan stable

Again, I don't see how the soviet invasion caused it. Just because something precedes something, doesn't mean it caused it. The problem started with the invasion of Afghanistan. The Taliban did not carry out 9/11, so the invasion was questionable.

And more importantly, the war against soviets was a necessity. They would've maybe invaded Pakistan otherwise.

You are right. Unlike this war OF terror, Pakistan's participation in the Soviet war was in Pakistan's best interest. The worst thing would be if Soviets were in our western border at the same time indians were in our eastern border. Also the Soviets were interested in expanding their empire to the warm waters of the Arabian Sea so yea Pakistan would've lost big time if Soviets won.

Wow you have pretty low standards with rgds "Golden age".

Abandonment by traditional allies.

Country on the brink of economic melt down.

Most sanctioned country in the world after Libya(Pressler amendments)

Massive corruption.

5 govts in 10yrs

International isolation over an ill thought war.

Extremist time bomb ticking in your backyard.

Is this what you call "Golden age"??

surely it will go, obama has promised, if not, then bankrupt USA will back off, whats more from tax money???

u.s is the richest, even few ppl like bill gates can help u.s to get rid of debt.well these r all assumptions.lets wait till july.

1)u.s will never leave afganistan.

This war costs U.S. more than 200 billion U.S. dollars per year. U.S. already spent more than a trillion dollars on this war OF terror.

Is a country like Afghanistan really worth it? Even our Pakhtun brothers living near the Afghanistan border say "waha Afghanistan main tho kuch bhi nahi hain".

The 90s were the result of massive inflow of support and capital from the same US when you were fighting as their front with the soviets.. Its just that you created Taliban for that fight and once Soviets were gone, they needed something to fight on. Afghanistan was a good option for a few years, till the time 9/11 happened. Post that, when Uncle Sam entered Afgh, Taliban turned on the next convinient target; Pakistan.

For Pakistan its been like riding a tiger. You were fine riding it, but you couldnt indefinetely. And once US made you get off, the same tiger is now mauling you to hell and back..

Its not the invasion, but Pakistan's affinity to use insurgency as a tool of state policy that resulted in Taliban in Afgh.. Rest is history..

The irrelevance of Obama in USA is increasing by the minute. With Republicans gaining majority in the congress, the pullout is now a distant fantasy. Now any major policy decision will only happen post 2012 once a Republican president assumes office..

Dont count on Obama's promise..he will fulfill it only if he stays....and US banktrupcy...I really doubt that will be a reason for their withdrawal.

So soviets lost.. And does Pakistan of today looks like a winner..?? Not by a large margin..
