On his return from Pakistan, moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Saturday warned that the violence in Afghanistan will spill over if steps are not taken to resolve the Kashmir issue.

“There is a lot of concern. There could be a spillover effect. Its effects couldn’t be limited to Pakistan. India and Kashmir would also be affected,” Mirwaiz said at his first press conference after his return from a visit to Pakistan. “The coming year and a half is very important. There is a window of opportunity for India and Pakistan to come together for the solution of Kashmir issue.”

The Mirwaiz’s comments echoed former top Army commander in the valley, Lt Gen Atta Hasnain, who had said that 2014 would be crucial for Kashmir if the US withdraws from Afghanistan.

Pointing out that Pakistan’s Kashmir Committee has helped build a consensus among political parties in that country on the Kashmir issue, the Mirwaiz urged India to set up such a panel. “The time has come for a political solution of the Kashmir issue. Pakistan has a Kashmir Committee. There is great coordination between Pakistan’s foreign office and this committee. There is a lot of confusion in India. There is a need for such an initiative. The Indian parliament must come forward; the political parties must come forward to dispel this confusion and create consensus for resolution of Kashmir issue,” he said.

India, the Hurriyat chief said, has to “move from management to the resolution” of the Kashmir issue. “Attempts are being made to project the grievances of Kashmiri people as their aspirations,” he said. “There is need to change this approach.”

The Mirwaiz reiterated that the Hurriyat was ready to discuss different ideas for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute, including former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf’s four point formula. “If we have to find a solution, we have to be open to all the options and Musharraf’s proposal is one of the formulae that can be discussed,” he said. “There is openness in Pakistan to discuss the idea, provided India is ready.”

mirwaiz is a sunni irani reject and does not even know kashmiri. he is not kashmiri and therefore, must be kicked out of kashmir

.
The solution is right there , convert LOC into international border with maximum possible autonomy to Kashmir valley . Sorted

.
India should do the same that Pakistan did. Except for the Kashmir valley the rest of j@k must be made into a separate state and . We must settle people from other states in kashmir valley making the local population a minority.

.
.. Mirwaiz is only saying what his 'high command' from pakistan told him to say.

If you read between th lines, what it actually says is pakistan is pretty desperate to resolve the issue and is litrally begging us to help them resolve it :P......All in all good fun :enjoy:

.
Is that supposed to be a threat ?

He is right it's true!

Well from Afghanistan to Kashmir the "war" has to cross entire Pakistan..can your country handle that ?

Back in 90s, after soviet withdrawal ISI tried to route mujahedeen to Kashmir cause without any effect. The terrain was not familiar, nor the language. What makes mirwaiz think that they will be successful now.

No problem,Afghan fighters infiltrated into KAshmir before too.
We will kill them just like last time.:)

By now the insurgency was a full scale low level conflict and its primary flag bearer was not the local insurgent but the battle hardened veterans of the Afghan jihad. With the winding down of the Afghan conflict a large number of Afghan mujahids were freed up. With no other occupation but the thought of jihad they now turned their attention to Kashmir. Known as the Mehmaan (Guest) militants they were eager to take on the Indian Army. Where as the Kashmiri insurgents would open up from more than 100 meters away the Afghan would come in as close as 30 meters. Along with their battle skills they brought in another legacy of the Afghan War the gruesome torture of civilian and military prisoners. A unit guarding the outskirts of an airbase was overpowered and all its members shot in cold blood. A BSF unit was likewise ambushed. Head constable Bikash Nazary was captured. He was put in chains and taken from village to village. His eyes were gauged out, skin ripped off before being executed. A Rashtriya Rifle (RR) unit was betrayed by their informer and captured. The men were castrated, skinned alive, eyes gouged out and beheaded. Many other prisoners had their throats slit especially in front of villagers. But the Afghan tough as they were soon realized that this was not Soviet conscripts but the tough and motivated men of the Indian Army. Furthermore unlike the Soviets the Indian Army was fighting on its own land. In the battles even though the Indian Army and other forces had higher losses than before the Afghans more often then not were eliminated.

The Afghan Mujahids were very deadly fighters but they were no match for the Indian Army.

So you are ready to withdraw your claim?
Practically, India really don't care for Kashmir issue. We are more focused on developing our part of Kashmir. all this lip service and claims are for keeping the fire burning so that Pakistan can't get international support over this issue. If we cool down, it will be detrimental for us and beneficial for you.

As long as Kashmir valley is silent, we can focus on economic growth and reduce terrorist attack probabilities which is must for stability which attracts economic investment and growth.

If you look closely, Indian economic growth is doing what our diplomatic machinery failed without it. Now Indian foreign policy includes economy as a bait to lure supporters of Pakistan in our sides to at least make them neutral or indifferent towards Kashmir issue. If you look at recent ties with KSA, UAE and even with China, wll China will support Pakistan any given day but it will also won't like to loose India as trade partner.

This is where India has gained significant edge. Pakistan has strategic edge wrt. China and other countries but India developed its economy to country this edge.

Desperate Times, Indeed!!

With FAILURES in all 4 wars, two decades of insurgency & 65 years of ATTEMPTING to make this an international issue. Pakistani leadership & "so called" voice of Kashmiri People i.e. Huriyat Conference is getting DESPERATE to make some sort of arrangement so that India can be forced to come on to the BARGAINING TABLE. But the problem is that India is growing rapidly & Pakistan is getting bogged down by it's own internal problems which is giving an UPPER HAND/ADVANTAGE to India.

Sorry, but we are not at all ready to give even an INCH of our territory to anyone. PERIOD.
