Afghan Soldier Shoots, Wounds at Least Four U.S. Troops

Thats not true. A big chunk of Afghan army is Pashtun and they are well represented in both officer and soldier ranks. It was only in the early years that it was dominated by Farsiwans as Americans were not trusting Pashtuns.
They still don't trust pashtuns citing the facts that majority of insurgents are pashtuns.
Pashtuns are 14% of Pakistan army, which means they are neither overly-represented nor underrepresented.
That's more then 14% every unit today has around 40% to 30% of it's strength comprising of pashtuns moreover FC has more then 80% pashtun gentry.
Pakistan has came a long way in building such a diverse Army after significant induction of Makranis and Balochis in officer corp that process would be complete, though on foot soldier level that's already complete.

Alexander the great marched in to the grave yard of southern Afghanistan twenty-five hundered yers ago. Alexander and his mother use to write to eachothers all the time. One day Alexander got a letter from his mother saying" Hey; what is the matter with you; you conquered most of the all known world in a day and a half; what are you doing bogged on in Afghanstan!" Alexander grabbed a bag and shovoled it full of dirt, and had it sent back to Greece with a message to his mother " Take this dirt and dump it around the palace, see what happens. Alexander's mother spred the dirt all around the palace. Later that night a couple of attendants showed up to make sure she was alright. One said go ahead after you; and the other one says no, after you. and the first one says ,no, and the second one says no i insist. And the first one says no , do not tell me what to do, and both pull swords and finished eachothers.Alexander's mother watched all this , wrote a note to Alexander saying okay, okay, now i get it. Alexander wrote back saying " yeah even the dirt is hostile".

40%? are you insane?. Pashtuns are not over-represented in Pakistan army. According to ISPR , Punjabis are 57%, Pashtuns 14.5 per cent, Sindhis (including Mohajirs) 17 %, Balochs 3.2%, and Azad Kashmir and Northern areas are 9.1% of the Army.

And if FC (guarding the Western frontier) is Pashtun majority then Rangers (guarding the eastern frontier) is Punjabi majority.

Punjab’s dominance in army being reduced: ISPR

ISLAMABAD, Sept 13: A planned effort is being made to revise the composition of the Pakistan Army by reducing the dominance of Punjab to a considerable level over a period of four years.

In 2001, the Punjabis constituted over 71 per cent of the army. The numerical strength was reduced in later years and has been brought down to just over 57 per cent this year. A further three per cent decrease in recruitment from that province is on the cards by 2011.

The information is part of a booklet titled ‘Information Brief’, published by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate, the official mouthpiece of the Army, released to counter the growing criticism at home and abroad over the composition of the military and the riches it has accumulated over the years, turning it into the country’s biggest corporate giant.

The booklet has also countered the figures indicating the size of the land being controlled by the army mentioned in Ayesha Siddiqa’s book, ‘Military Inc’.

Within a decade (2001-2011), the composition of Pakhtuns in the army would increase by one per cent to 14.5 per cent.

A two per cent increase will be made in the number of Sindhis bringing their total strength to 17 per cent by 2011.

The representation of Balochis, which was nil in 2001, constitutes 3.2 per cent at present. Their composition would be increased to 4 per cent by 2011.

Similarly, with their zero per cent presence in the army seven years ago, the people from Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas now constitute 9.11 per cent of the army. However, their number would be curtailed to 9 per cent in 2011.

By 2011, it will be ensured that at least one person from the minorities is among hundred personnel of the armed forces. At present they constitute just 0.72 per cent while seven years ago, their presence was just 0.29 per cent in the army.

CORPORATE ACTIVITIES: The booklet has claimed that a total of 833,268 acres was allotted to the armed forces since independence and not over 2.30 million acres as put by Ayesha Siddiqa in her book.

According to the ISPR, the current asset base of Fauji Foundation is over Rs125 billion.

You should eat almonds a lot. Its DAWN news reporting that with this information released , ISPR is debunking the claims of Ayesha Siddiqui about composition of the army (she was claiming that army is Punjabi majority, more than 80%) and other things.

Refer to the entire "information brief" (check page 24) released by ISPR, that i have posted.

Then my friend you are uninformed person in that matter.Number of paramilitary units deployed on western border is 100% more then deployed on Eastern borders and FC in past years has been pretty much developed as a fighting corps of Army.It is far better equipped then Rangers.

That report is pretty much for public consumption.

If 40% are pashtuns then 55% punjabis and rest 5%? Hard to believe that. Minorties now being 1% from 0% also shows as we have seen many minority soldiers being killed over the last decade, including many hindu soldiers from Sindh.

Use some common sense guys.

That report is pretty much for public consumption.

FC/rangers etc are not included in 550,000 (or its 620,000?) active army troops.

It seems more mythical than reality. Soil isn't hostile but the people have been turned into a warrior race due to lack of other resources for sustainance in the rugged mountainous terrain.
