Mumbai, October 26: A Turkish delegation of film and TV producers and actors came visiting Mumbai to attend the 18th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, where 10 Turkish films are being screened. Turkey is a partner country at Mumbai Film Festival 2016 and the delegation is here to meet up people in Bollywood to tie-up for making films together and also so that more Bollywood films could shoot in the Greater Middle Eastern country, with some like Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger already having been shot there. But it is not Salman Khan or even the overseas popular star Shah Rukh Khan who is known or liked in Turkey – it is none other than our little perfectionist Aamir Khan who is popular there! Yes, the Turkish delegation and actors who were present at the MAMi film festival’s press conference all maintained that they love the film 3 Idiots (2009) and specifically the lead actor in it – Aamir Khan! We hope they know he is a huge star in Bollywood!
Present at the press conference at MAMI film fest 2016 were Burak Akçapar, Ambassador of Turkey, New Delhi; Prof Dr Hüseyin Yayman, Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism, Turkey; Erdal Sabri Ergen, Consul General of Turkey, Mumbai; Birol Güven, actor-producer-scriptwriter; Alin Taşçiyan, Film Critic & President of FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics) Curator of the Turkish Films being screened at Jio MAMI 2016, Erkin Yılmaz, Director General of Cinema, Ministry of Culture & Tourism, Turkey, among other dignitaries. Also present were actress Hazal Kaya, who plays the title role in the television show Feriha; actor Kaan Taşaner who plays Erdogan in Fatmagül and actor Ali Sarp Levendoğlu, who is the daddy of the adorable Little Lord from the show.
Birol Güven revealed at the 18th Mumbai Film Fest that Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots is going to be remade in Turkey! Such was the craze of the Rajkumar Hirani-directed movie there. Incidentally, film critic Anupama Chopra was also present on the occasion. She is at the helm of affairs at the Mumbai Film Fest along with director Kiran Rao, and Anupama is also the wife of the producer of 3 Idiots, Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The movie has been remade in Tamil before as Nanban (2012) starring Vijay. Let’s see how this Turkish adaptation turns out!
The 10 Turkish films being screened at the 18th Mumbai Film Festival include 8 Saniye (8 Seconds), Albüm (Album), Mavi Bisiklet (Blue Bicycle), Toz (Dust), Kor (Ember), Annemin Yarası (My Mother’s Wound), Gelin (The Bride), Kar Korsanları (Snow Pirates), Unutursam Fısılda (Whisper If I Forget) and Kış Uykusu (Winter Sleep).
