FOXNews.com - Iran Claims It's Digging Graves for U.S. Troops in Case of Attack

TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran has dug mass graves in which to bury U.S. troops in case of any American attack on the country, a commander of the elite Revolutionary Guard said Tuesday, warning that a military strike would spark an "extensive war" in the region.

The announcement appears to be a show of bravado after the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Mike Mullen, said last week that the U.S. military has a contingency plan to attack Iran, although he thinks a military strike is probably a bad idea.

The U.S. and some of its allies accuse Iran of using its civilian nuclear program as a cover to build nuclear weapons. Iran has denied the charges, saying its nuclear program is geared merely toward generating electricity, not bomb.

The deputy commander of the Revolutionary Guard, Gen. Hossein Kan'ani Moghadam, said graves for any attacking U.S. troops have been dug in Iran's southwestern Khuzestan province, where Iran buried Iraqi soldiers killed during the ruinous 1980-88 war between the Islamic republic and Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's regime.

"The mass graves that used to be for burying Saddam's soldiers have now been prepared again for U.S. soldiers, and this is the reason for digging this big number of graves," Moghadam said, according to the semiofficial Fars news agency.

Moghadam, however, said American troops would likely not be able to set foot on Iranian soil, repeating warnings that Iran will retaliate against U.S. bases in the Gulf if there is an attack on Iran. The U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet headquarters is based just across the Gulf from Iran in Bahrain.

"I assume that the enemy will be hit in its own military bases out of our borders and will not have any chance to have its forces land in Iran," he said.

"If the U.S. decides to take a pre-emptive action and attack Iran, Iran will have no choice but to strike the American bases in the region," he said. "The heavy costs of such a war will not be just on the Islamic Republic of Iran. America and other countries should accept that this would be the start of an extensive war in the region."

The war of words has intensified between Iran and the United States after the U.N. Security Council imposed a fourth round of tougher sanctions in June in response to Iran's refusal to halt uranium enrichment, a technology that can be used to produce nuclear fuel or material for an atomic bomb.

The U.S. and Israel have said military force could be used if diplomacy fails to stop what they suspect is an Iranian nuclear weapons program.

Iran put the Guard -- its most powerful force -- in charge of defending the country's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf in 2008. Iran has sought to upgrade its air defense systems and naval power, saying any possible future attacks against Iran will be air and sea-based.

The USA is protecting the rest of the world from an insane country getting it's hands on weapons that will be used to destroy other countries.

Iran has already said that as soon as it gets nukes, it will bomb israel and numerous other countries.

This is why the rest of the world says that they will not be allowed to have nukes.
Also it's really stupid and ignorant when people like you think it's only the U.S who has a problem with Iran having nukes. It's nearly every single member of the United Nations who has a problem with it.

So please, do go spouting your "OMG THE U.S JUST WANTS TO INVADE FOR NO REASON" crap around here.

If the Iranians were really so insane then why is it that they have not waged a war against any other country in the region, instead being subjected to a Western sponsored war against them which was waged on them by the Iraqis?

Try to give this war party talk a rest. Iranians have a very old civilization. They are not folks who would start a war because of knee-jerk reactions. What does Iran gain from an attack on Israel which would pitch them against the whole of the Western world?

Yes Iranians have an issue with the Israelis, but its not one which would lead to a preemptive Iranian strike against the Israelis. The reason this Iranian threat is talked up so much is because it helps put down a challenge to the Israeli military domination of the entire region by virtue of being the only nuclear power in the region. What better way to preempt the introduction of a balancing nuclear capability than to make the Iranians look like idiotic fanatics who have nothing better to do than blow up Israelis. By doing so, the Iranians are always on the defensive and just as Israelis try to browbeat them by talking up a strike against their nuclear facilities, they say outlandish things to make the Israelis nervous. Its nothing more than psychological warfare. The Iranians will never launch a nuclear strike against another country unless they themselves were threatened by annihilation.

There is a need to understand what drives the Iranian need for the nuclear weapons. Its not one that is based on their need to destroy anyone, rather its an act of self-preservation in the face of a threat that comes by way of US presence in the region and the Israeli conventional and unconventional superiority.

Jigs, How do you think Turkey will react if it's Israel that strikes first?

Current Administration would condemn at most and keep Turkish airspace clear but nothing more.

Erdogan has made it very clear Israel would get a reaction similar to a "earthquake" if they decide to take a route that brings them into Turkish Airspace.

Turkey has installed Anti-Aircraft Hawk Missiles at a village close to the Syrian border in an attempt to prevent Israeli war jets from violating Turkish Airspace in case of an attack against Iran or Syria.

A Turkish paper reported that Turkey will not allow Israel to use its airspace to attack Iran, Syria or any other country, and will act against any such violations.

The anti-aircraft batteries were installed in the village of Kayeel, south of Turkey and located close to the Syrian border.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a Turkish military official stated that the batteries are meant to protect Turkey and its airspace against any violations, including American or Israeli war jets should Israel or the United States decide to attack Iran or Syria.

Installing the batteries is more of a message than a military act as Turkey is not interested in any military combat but at the same time will not allow its airspace to be used in attacking neighboring countries, the official stated.

Iran cannot handle retaliation by Israel but it will bomb persian gulf and strategic saudi assests to disturb oil trade as much as possible. And perhaps incite a Shia revolution in Saudi arabia as well. Most of the saudis Shia are awaiting for a day to revolt and discovering arms cache in Shia areas is montly affair

Iran digging graves for US troops if they attack

TEHRAN: Iran has dug mass graves in which to bury US troops in case of any American attack on the country, a former commander of the elite Revolutionary Guard said.

The digging of the graves was in response to a statement by the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Mike Mullen, last week that the US military has a contingency plan to attack Iran, although he thinks a military strike is probably a bad idea.

The US and some of its allies accuse Iran of using its civilian nuclear program as a cover to build nuclear weapons. Iran has denied the charges, saying its nuclear program is geared merely toward generating electricity, not bomb.

Gen. Hossein Kan'ani Moghadam, who was the Guard's deputy commander during the 1980s, said graves have been dug in Iran's southwestern Khuzestan province, where Iran buried Iraqi soldiers killed during the ruinous 1980-88 war between the Islamic republic and Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's regime.

"The mass graves that used to be for burying Saddam's soldiers have now been prepared again for US soldiers, and this is the reason for digging this big number of graves," Moghadam told The Associated Press Television News late Monday. He did not say how many were prepared.

Footage obtained by APTN showed a large number of empty, freshly dug graves in a desert region of Khuzestan. The digging of the graves was first reported earlier this week by Iran's semiofficial news agency Fars.

Moghadam repeated warnings that Iran will retaliate against US bases in the Gulf if there is an attack on Iran. The US Navy's 5th Fleet headquarters is based just across the Gulf from Iran in Bahrain.

If US forces attack, "Iran will have no choice but to strike the American bases in the region," he said. "The heavy costs of such a war will not be just on the Islamic Republic of Iran. America and other countries should accept that this would be the start of an extensive war in the region." Iran has no option but to wage asymmetric warfare against US and Israeli interests. This warfare would be a dangerous one and also one which would cause significant destabilization in the Middle East for some time.

Rhetoric aside, hitting at US/Israeli interests are the only options available to the Iranians aside from blocking the oil shipments.

USA does not get that much oil from the Middle east but Japan and the EU do and that will bring them into a war with Iran.

North Korea can even get away with a direct attack on the battleship of a US ally.

No wonder Iran wants the nuke. They are boxed in on both sides with Iraq and Afghanistan, and they see North Korea getting away with murder, and the US not doing anything about it.

There is a saying that you should not back a dog into a corner, because it will bite. Regardless of the consequences.

There is one more option unspoken of and that is on the eve of attack on Iran, presuming there would be a buildup of media and a coalition over many months and some sort of warning like Iraq, the Supreme Leader could intervene, depose Ahmadinejad and declare Iran nuclear free. After all he has issued fatwa against nuclear weapons. Or lacking that just depose of Ahmadinejad.

Half of the anger would evaporate overnight if Ahmadinejad "retired" and some moderate became President. Because Western citizens associate President with leader of the country. Meanwhile the Ayatollah would maintain real control and diffuse the war before it started. Much of Western anger is directed at Ahmadinejad`s `wipe Israel off the face of the earth` comment (whether that is a mistranslation or not I will not debate but fact is this is a game of public opinion and Bush had to brainwash America for months before starting his war with Iraq).

I hope he isn't so cloistered as not to pay attention to Western news and rhetoric. That was Saddam's mistake, underestimating the anti-Iraq propaganda. The Iranians certainly can stop a war before it starts, but they have to have their A game out in politics and not pointless gestures like digging graves.

Sounds very similar to Osama Bin Laden's hypothetical argument "Destroy the World Trade Centers, kill 1500 odd Americans that should set the US economy back significantly"

Congratulations, America, you're now at par with Bin Laden. Now go give him a hug.

Can't we all just get along ?

And sit down on one table , eating American hot dogs , and Iranian BBQ kaboobs , and lets make them kosher
