Indeed. The border non-issue is a perfect diversion for the political elite of Kabul. At regular intervals they inflame hatred and tension towards Pakistan and the border so as to cover up their own corruption and incompetence. Why would they recognize the border and lose a brilliant political tool which has fooled their masses for generations. Ayub went so far as to suggesting a federation between Pakistan and Afghanistan and thereby resolving the border which again they turned down.

It is more than that. Afghans as a nation are radicalised to an extent where they are willing to commit war against Pakistan. Of course external influence such as Hindustan and US WoT have only added more fuel, but Afghans have always believed that large chunks of Pakistan belong to them.

Pakistan has wronged itself by appeasing Afghanistan all these years. We have accommodated their wishes to have an open border. This was a foolish policy.
