Chapter Five, A Road Trip to Meizhou Island
18 February 2015

Mr. Bakshi once told me and also wrote in his blogs, it was after going to China for work that he came to understand the nonsense of Shanghai and Beijing being some mere showcases of China.

This day was New Year Eve, the day before Goat/Sheep's Year. People were going home or in most cases already staying at home. Thanks to Mr. Xu, the organiser of the gathering, he drove Mr. and Mrs. Bakshi all the way to an island called Meizhou 200km away where the ancestral temple of Mazu is located.

As for Mr. Bakshi himself, an engineer for decades, he is alway more into urban planning, infrastructure and social development much more than scenic sites. So when I asked him for his photos in Meizhou Island, most he transferred to me were about what he really interested in, roads, tunnels, bridges, etc. Hence, for scenery and landscape please see my own Meizhou trip(My Adventures Across China | Page 3

I'm pretty sure it wasn't tomyam, it look like bihun soup. The color isn't red like curry, was fooled by it. I was warned, didn't listen. All I did was one spoon.

This HSR line is an excellent case of how reasonably priced trains impel blood-sucking bus companies to be on the verge of bankruptcy, the same as in the case of my province(Yichang-Wuhan intercity services).

S10 Fujian Provincial Expressway from Yongding to Putian, 1km from the ferry terminal to Meizhou Island. It seemed that nobody would visit this place at this time of a year. Sincere gratitude to Mr.Xu who sacrificed his time on New Year Eve.

Mr. Xu told me, Mrs. Bakshi was a little tired on the ferry back. But when he told her the music video on the cabin screen was the first lady singing about Mazu, she sat up right away and all her fatigue disappeared. She said, who wouldn't love such a elegant lady?

i've been to Malaysia several times and always love to eat in places like this. i think the seafood is quite cheap compared with coastal mainland, love the cooking style too. and the Malaysian Chinese are super friendly!
once i tried to speak English but the clerk was like 'nah, Mandarin is fine'...don't feel like being abroad frankly speaking...

This is true, Malaysia is probably the lowest cost of living in South East Asia. I always thought Indonesia cost of living would be lower, but is a surprise.

i've been to Indonesia too, but that's so ancient history can't remember how the price was like.
yeah i knew some Malays and Indians there, very nice people too, it's just the Chinese were so friendly to us that we ended up speaking Mandarin....
