Aoa all,

I am a silent reader of these useful forums and this is my first post.

I recently came to know that in PAF the officer incharge of ground security (known as Provost Marshall) is a fighter pilot. This post has always been taken by a fighter pilot.

With all due respect to my fighter pilot brothers/sisters, I find this very strange. In today's world, every job is specialized (specially security).

It seems that (contrary to popular belief, and my own belief) PAF is also plagued with the same narrow mindedness, which runs in our whole country. Specialists are never given top posts in their own departments.

In my view, well trained commandos (with special anti terrorist training) should handle ground security of PAF, up to the top most level.

Can members from PAF shed some light on this ?

first give me the sourse get ur self introduced and then we will talk okay

I got this info from a friend ...

and my intro is that I run a business in Multan and am a freelance writer ...

does my intro really matter here ? lets concentrate on the post ...

Id be surprised if that was true because my brother in law is in charge of the security of one of our bases and he is no fighter pilot and never was.

Alpha you are mixing two things. Admin branch's Gp capt is responsible for security of base, he is also called Oi/C provost.

Provost Marshal is Air Cdre rank officer, he sits at AHQ. His job is to keep an eye on all base's security.

The reason why Provost Marshal is from GD(P) is that GD(P) officers enjoy more oppurtunities of command during their service as compare to other branch officers...In sqn, FLt Cdr and Sqn Cdr are two posts for them. Then as Gp Capt they command a Wing(comprising of various squadrons). And as Air cdre they command base.

Apart from these, the good ones are also sent to other countries on different assignments....In a nutshell they are more polished commanders as compare to non-GD(P) officers.

Alpha,

My brother from multan----gard gadda garma goristan-----. Security detail is a totally different beast in nature and operation. The mindset of these operatives and the modus operandi is totally oppositie in conformity and operation.

It is not that a fighter jock cannot manage base security----it falls back on his training how to secure an air base---but most importantly it depends upon his mindset as how he visualizes base security, what he has learnt during his training, and how much respect he has in his mind of the terrorists ingenuity against infiltrating his base.

Security is purely a mind game----that is one thing that I would say---it comes to you naturally----and training enhances your capabilities---. And looking at the results, we can say that the man failed in the job that he was given---.

Now tell me---have you heard this---that the base security detail had no weapons on them but just a couple of hand guns, initially!

Base security is a specialized operation at this stage of war on terrorism since the last 10 years---- for that you don't need a GDP to do this job---as a matter of fact---a GDP would be basically a failure for he ois not well suited for this position----a base security officer is like an investigating police office keeping an eye on criminal activity taking place in his jurisdiction with no worries of placing his flying career in jeopardy or hold----.

Now we have a major loss of weapon systems---and also the loss of a very good air force pilot----.

I agree with you my friend ... a pilot being incharge of security planning of PAF (whether he sits in AHQ or where ever) is a wrong decision ...

as some one has mentioned that his brother is incharge of security at the Base ... such people, who have practically remained responsible for security of a Base should be promoted to higher ranks and given the responsibility of looking after security of whole PAF ...

we must let the experts do their job ... at least PAF should not do what the whole nation is doing ...

I am sure that officers from non-GDP branches also get to be commanders of men ... and gradually their circle of command grows bigger ... so, they should also be well suited for higher command jobs ... otherwise the training system of PAF is flawed (it is only training pilots to go to higher ranks, whic is again very wrong) ...

in a nutshell ... lets us leave the centuries old thinking ... and understand that each and every job today is a specialized job and we MUST let the experts do their job ... higher jobs / ranks must not consist of politically appointed people ...

Commandos from PAF should be given anti terrorist training ... and they should be in charge of security from the lowest rank to highest rank ...

let us leave this thinking behind that a certain class of people can do EVERY THING ... like our politicians (the same politician can be Minister of Education ... and after a while he can assume a totally different post) ...

Id be surprised if that was true because my brother in law is in charge of the security of one of our bases and he is no fighter pilot and never was.

my original post is definitely true ... it has been confirmed by @Najam Khan ...

at lower level the security is looked after by officers who are not pilots and specialize in security ... but at the top most level, where all the security planning is taking place, the PAF appoints a fighter pilot ...

logically ... officers like your brother should take the overall command of ground security in PAF ...

going off topic ...

i am extremely sad today after seeing the brutal killing of a boy by Rangers in Karachi ... i cannot describe my feelings in words ...

i am unable to sleep ... ...

Hi,

Actually there should be a base security force----a supplemental off-shoot of military police----we still have that in pakistan---now don't we----. Has the military police been disbanded or what----. It is not the job of a commando to do base security----. As a matter of fact----military police are an extremely deadly bunch of operators---they are simply the policemen of a military base----.

I would like to ask XERIC----do we still have dedicated MP's in pak millitary.
