So I'm not very familiar with Pakistan's naval capabilities, but I do know that it usually gets the short end of the stick in every defence budget that's passed.

What is it that you feel that Pakistan's navy needs to come up to effectively counter threats from other naval forces?

What is it that you think the Pakistani navy is doing wrong and where does it need improvements?

How do you feel that Pakistan's navy is progressing, and what positive steps do you see the Pakistani navy taking, especially in recent years.

I'm just really damn curious, because I'm completely unfamiliar with the navy and want to see where I can start to get my knowledge up on this topic.

Well bro, first thing to know is you guys give the big share to AF and Army to be able to counter possible threats. If you look at the regional map, there's not a force that it's a threat for PN, other than the Indians. If you ask what are the weaknesses, I'd say Naval Aviation, ToT and the lackness of Submarine and Frigate fleet. But it's not the fault of your politicians. It's all about the ex-embargo on Pakistan and the lack of shortness (very low) in a defence budget like 5-6 billion dollars. When it comes to major problems; Pakistan doesn't need a large navy, but a technolically advanced one. You need a good marine force, but I heard that you commissioned the 3rd marine battalion. Frigates aren't bad, but PN should replace the current missile inventory with up to date Anti-ship, anti-surface and SAM missiles, like (Harphoon, SeaSparrow, ESSM, SM-1/2/3, RAM, Phalanx CIWS Block IV...etc.). and last, P-3 is a good surveillance aircraft. But another class of surveillance plane should be purchased, like CN-235 or C-160. But of course, i'm pretty sure that Pakistani Admirals have their own reasons for this.

Thanks for the info :)

I think Pakistani nacy should focus on submarine warfare , like Nazi-germany

I think it already does, the only problem is that the budget has basically hampered PN's ability to purchase newer ones. There was a deal that was almost signed with the Germans that would provide Pakistan with 3 new state-of-the-art subs, but that ended up going nowhere because of the sudden near collapse of Pakistan's economy.

I believe that our Navy should develop a more technologically advanced, mobile and aggressive force to a) counter the Indian threat and b) extend Pakistan's naval power and c) develop the naval capabilities to attack shores like the US Marines who can train actively by participating the War on Terror and perhaps turn the river systems into a military zone.

This would be a synthesis of the doctrine of the PAF and PA training, a high quality technologically advanced soldier (PAF) and a highly motivated, eager and well supported soldier (PA). This would make the PN to be a force to be reckoned with and make them much more useful in the current scenario of war.

I would, but I don't know where to start, that's why I asked my questions.

Your navy should ask its fair share from defense budget, what I've heard its ur airforce that usually takes the lions share. Since u dont have huge coastal territory to look after couple more destroyer or frigate will do fine I believe.

Btw guys this isn't all about getting good ships. I think the major problems (caused by the defence budget) are in Naval Aviation, Submarine Fleet and the Missile Inventory

it depends on PN doctrine and strategy.
the two most important tasks are ensuring that PK SLOC are not blockaded by the adversary. in addition it needs to defend PKEEZ and coastline from enemy encroachments.
based on this the procurement plan is developed.
the submarine force is the navy's cutting edge. at the moment it is short of 5 boats. it needs to close this gap as a top priority and subject to availability of funds, the only option left is to go for chinese submarines.
the surface fleet needs to retire its 6 type-21 FFG in the near future. it had planned to replace these with 6 Perry class FFG which may not be forthcoming soon. so it may once again have to revert to china for additional F-22 FFG or larger ships.
the naval air arm has also suffered. it has lost 2 P-3C's which it needs to replace quickly and the US may be willing to do so. all the F-27 Fokker MPA/utility need to be replaced in the near future with the French ATR-72-500 MPA/utility aircraft. the Z-9EC's will replace the alouette-III in the SAR / ASW role with plans for a further 6 Z-9EC. the Sea-kings are being uprated and will continue to soldier on for a few more years.
the PN dosnt need more numbers but it needs to modernise what it already has and what it is planning to purchase.

Isn't the procurement of four further F-22P's separate from the Type-21/OHP scenario?

F-22P was always going to be increased, while the OHP replaces the Type-21. Correct? PN sought a total of 8 F-22P.

not sure of it. the news about additional F-22's is 'wishy washy' IMO.
