A brighter future when China and India work hand in hand

. . . .
So you don't think that China is trying to "keep India off-balance" like Manmohan Singh said?

Good. :D

On topic: Global resources will start running out around a decade from now. There are simply not enough resources in the world, for all the "developing nations" to become "developed nations". The world cannot sustain 6-7 billion people living at a first-world standard of living.

Some countries will make it, but many others will get left behind.

Mankind had always been able to figure out alternatives. May be those Nuclear (Thorium, Uranium etc) & Solar based electricity coupled with hydrogen fueled & fuels cell vehicles will be the answer for fossil fuels in the coming decased..

If you meant India by "some countries", I believe, you cannot be any more wrong. I'll not dwell onto why, because it'll derail the current thread of importance of mutual co-operation.

However, I firmly believe that if we (India specifically) have to migrate to the next level of development (we had been somewhat stagnant at 7-9% since last few years), we will have to shed hostility with our neighbors (specifically China). As Mr. Dai Bingguo had rightly pointed out, we have seen in the recent past that, whenever India & China talks in unision, the world listens. That's a good sign & we should look to further our combined influence on the world. Be it environment, economics or geo-politics.

I don't see that as being realistic.

China's rise alone will be enough to stretch global resources to the breaking point by 2030. And that is only 1.3+ billion people, out of the many more billions that live in the developing world.

For small developing countries, it won't be too difficult to achieve developed status. But for giants like China and India, even double-digit growth for three decades in a row hasn't brought China even close to being a developed country.

Well done, Indian.

Well at least we have a couple Indians that believe in it :D

I used to believe it before but this forum was an eye opener i knew there was an unresolved border dispute, occasional limited military clashes, airspace and border violations by chinese troops but i used to think unlike pakistan there was not much mutual hatredness towards eachother but by looking posts of several chinese members i realised there is so much anti india sentiment prevelant in china

If you think the Forum Represents the entire population then you should think again. As for the Border incidents they can be solved. if you think Chinese hate Indians then your Mistaken, the Chinese members here got a sort of Anti Indian feel due to the Trolling and flame wars, Honestly we have no problem with Indians. if you visit china the feeling to Indians is neutral.

World is facing a natural resources crisis worse than financial crunch - The Guardian

"By 2030, humanity will need TWO Earths to sustain our level of resource consumption."

The Living Planet report calculates that humans are using 30% more resources than the Earth can replenish each year, which is leading to deforestation, degraded soils, polluted air and water, and dramatic declines in numbers of fish and other species. As a result, we are running up an ecological debt of $4tr (£2.5tr) to $4.5tr every year - double the estimated losses made by the world's financial institutions as a result of the credit crisis - say the report's authors, led by the conservation group WWF, formerly the World Wildlife Fund.

The figure is based on a UN report which calculated the economic value of services provided by ecosystems destroyed annually, such as diminished rainfall for crops or reduced flood protection. This had led the report to predict that by 2030, if nothing changes, mankind would need two planets to sustain its lifestyle.
