8th Feb, Whatssapp privacy law chanage.

View attachment 705674

the app is ES File Explorer which got pulled from Google play store for some reason so what is on play store is not what I have on my phone.

There is nothing to check iOS devices unfortunately.
I remember I had something similar but native in my blackberry bold 9700.Unfortunately blackberry is dead.

if the app was pulled from google playstore, it still can be installed with its akp files.
But we have to be very careful with external sources of apps.

I am not an expert but I am sure some exist on forum who can help us understand it better. because as soon as I installed Signal ES File Explorer alerted me and I scanned it.

But Whatsapp is no longer what it was and that is pathetic.

.
I installed signal and I got an alert from an app which scanned Signal and it was almost the same privacy breaches as whatsapp. they are all charlatans and there is NO privacy in digital realm.
Even if it was any different, Signal is found by two Americans with one of em being Whatsapp's founder. If Signal happens to gain some popularity, it would be acquired by some biggie and the privacy crap would be the same all over again

oh lol then if its founder includes Whatsapp people. no doubt all of these projects have military and intelligence people involved.

The media office of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is reportedly shutting down its WhatsApp groups over privacy concerns. The move comes after Ankara called for a nationwide boycott of the Facebook-owned messaging app.
Starting on Monday, the office is switching over to encrypted messaging app BiP, which is developed by Turkish firm Turkcell, Bloomberg reported, citing internal messages posted to the WhatsApp groups.

The decision comes amid growing consternation over WhatsApp’s plan to begin sharing personal data with its parent company, Facebook. The policy comes into effect on February 8, and users who refuse the new terms will not be able to access their accounts on the messaging platform.

The updated user terms have been met with hostility by the Turkish government, which has used privacy issues to promote homegrown apps and internet services.
Ali Taha Koc, head of the presidency’s Digital Transformation Office, released a statement on Saturday in which he warned that foreign-made applications “contain significant risks to data security.” He urged Turkish citizens to switch over to “local and national software,” claiming the move would help Turkey safeguard its data.
“As President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated, let’s stand against digital fascism together!” he concluded.

The message seems to have resonated. Turkcell reported that around one million new users joined BiP Messenger in the past 24 hours. The app has been downloaded more than 53 million times since launching in 2013.

Meanwhile, Turkish media outlets have been highlighting high-profile individuals who have joined the exodus. State-run Anadolu Agency reported that a senior executive at Baykar, a Turkish drone company, announced that he was dropping WhatsApp due to its new data policy and would begin using BiP.
Erdogan has previously warned of “digital fascism,” arguing that the monopolization of data control would spell disaster for the world. In a speech from November, he said that remaining “human” in the digital age would be one of the greatest challenges going forward. However, his own government has been accused of policing social media platforms and websites for political views it deems unsavory.

Actually no. First thing, whatsapp data was never shared with facebook and this is one of the biggest change in this new privacy policy. After accepting this, your whatsapp data will go to facebook.

Secondly, even if 90% whatsapp users have facebook accounts - the stuff everyone shared on facebook is completely different than what you share on whatsapp. Not everyone posts videos of family or other personal stuff like images, videos, text or voice notes on facebook but all of that is shared on whatsapp without any issue. There is heck of difference. Stuff you share on facebook is mostly what you want to make public but the stuff on whatsapp is mostly private even if you're putting it in your whatsapp family group.

WhatsApp clarifies again on updated privacy policy amid row. Says "update doesn't affect privacy of messages with friends or family". Lists information "NOT shared with Facebook".

So where facebook will share it ? I mean will it be some tab with name public and all data would be sharing there. How this will work?

They can use your data for marketing without your permission, heck they can even sell it to anyone for money.

Governments around the world are telling citizens to ditch Whatsapp with diversion to local apps. In my view, it will have the following implications:

1. States will exercise more surveillance on their citizens, and
2. interstate or inter-app networking or communications will only be possible once states surrender some privacy to each other, which means signing of treaties in the future.

In the meanwhile, app developers would be trying hard to come up with their own apps because it is a lucrative opportunity that Mark Zuckerberg has gifted to them by shooting himself in the foot.
