8 Reasons Why India Is So Poor

.
The biggest reason for India's extreme poverty is that 50% of people are engaged in agriculture or related fields but this sector contributes only 17% to the GDP. A vast majority of these farmers are subsistence farmer. They own tiny tracts of land which gets further subdivided after each generation. So until India can do urbanization at the same scale as China, there is no hope. And this gets complicated because of archaic land-acquisition laws and the all emotional drama associated with taking land away from poor peasants.

.
India is a very very complex country, So it's not easy to address some of these issues as elsewhere, India is an enigma where you will see abject poverty and wealth beyond vanity coexisting side by side, You dont see that in any other country in the world and majority of it's upper and middle class population seem quite comfortable with that status quo

But i have seen great changes as well as someone that have been to the country several times over the years rapid changes, And yes caste is a major impediment for human development there but there is also alot of Indians coming out of poverty, With a more educated population caste is gradually diminishing atleast in the urban area's when it comes to daily lives of the people (Inter caste marriage and stuff is another matter).. A long way to go but there is a lot of optimism, Sometimes that optimism turns in to irrational nationalism mainly in online forums like this one, But in real life most Indians i know accept the reality and the struggle ahead and they know the massive potential of their country.. And they're determined to get there

.
One damm FUCKNIG reason.
Ruled by a Anti national Force called Khangress, which only looted India.
rest all reason are fake.

Rome wasn't built in a day and the issue of poverty will not vanish overnight either.

Members here can speculate all they want and turn this into a shit shoveling contest.
But point is that India has taken massive steps to find solutions to uplift people from the clutches of poverty. Corruption on an institutional level has obviously been the main road bump to overall development.

At the end of the day, it is Indians who need to be satisfied with the progress made by their elected officials, NOT some randoms on an online forum. Steps like demonetization and the Aadhar Card (we can argue about its merit and execution) gives Indians some confidence in their govt.
A lot more needs to be done, but at least we are taking bold steps and that's what is required.

Personally, I think the thread's purpose is to simply make a mockery of Indian poverty, nothing else. If this makes some sleep better at night, who am I to spoil their party?
I would just request Indian members from shit shoveling as a counter response or risk playing into the hands of the OP.

Don't laugh. It is not a laughing matter and neither are we joking.

India has serious poverty issues and we are simply highlighting the factors that are keeping India impoverished. You'll agree that caste plays a major role in the impoverishment?

Caste based discrimination has been banned by the constitution. So what else can be done? Please do tell us.
Instead of highlighting, if you're genuine about this not being a "laughing matter" for you, how about you provide us with some possible solutions?
Nothing you're saying is news to us...so again, what is the purpose of highlighting? How is this going to help us solve our problems?

.
It has many reasons and caste is certainly one of the major ones. Poverty in India can be curbed, but the caste system prevents wealth from trickling down to the poorer segments of the society. Rich are rich and poor are poor everywhere, but the Indian case is unusual. The problem of poverty in India is compounded by the medieval caste system.

If caste itself is the problem leading the income inequality then China despite no caste system seems to have higher income inequality than India

Tough facts about rape in China

A series of sex abuse cases in China has led to growing public awareness of sex crimes. Recently, sexual assaults on at least five school girls by local vagrants were investigated in Shandong province. Also in the news was a report of a Xiamen University professor accused of molesting and raping female students that went viral on the Internet.

According to a United Nations report based on police records of rapes in 130 countries from 2003 to 2012, the incidence of rape is not as high in China — at 2.1 per 100,000 people — as in the US (26.6), the UK (23.2), South Korea (12.7) and other countries. The UN report ranked China 81st in 130 countries surveyed. But does this actually mean China has such an extremely low rate of sex crimes?

The answer is no. In China, a large number of sexual abuses are not recorded. A 2013 multi-country survey by on sex crimes in the Asia Pacific region shows that 22.7 percent of Chinese males surveyed said they had raped a woman.

Furthermore, among those Chinese accused of committing sex crimes, only 24.9 percent were arrested, compared with an average of 32.5 percent for all the countries surveyed. Also, only 15.6 percent were imprisoned, compared with an average of 22.9 percent for all the other countries surveyed. On the surface, it appears that the rate of registered rape cases in China is lower than the average level of the Asia Pacific region, but the issue is more complicated.

Despite all the hype of IITs India lacks any innovation, even the so called geniuses of IITs are nothing more than mere bookworms, tell them to think outside the box and they would be completely lost, this lack of innovation is one of many reasons that has lead to a large chunk of the Indian population living in conditions that are so dire that they make the folks living in sub-Saharan Africa look like they are living in Shangrilla.

Dunno what relation you are trying to connect here between poverty and under five, maternal mortality/undernourishment?

Pakistan for instance despite lower poverty than India has higher

Maternal mortality, Child mortality rates, undernourishment rates than India
