What's new

56% of Americans still believe Hiroshima bombing was justified – poll

The good thing is Japanese don't pursuit Nuclear weapon and don't support it (at least in front of public).

.
It makes it somehow justifiable to do it to save more civilians than those killed in the bombing."Ok" is certainly not the word to be associated with this situation.

It does NOT make it justifiable. Attacking civilians as a policy of intimidation is NEVER justified. Only terrorists think like that and that is why they are called terrorists.

ab mai kya k'hu karma is a bi*CH >

What karma did those innocent Japanese do who died in the atomic bombing? Even newborn infants got killed in the bombing, you call their deaths a result of heir karma?

You guys got some serious defects inside your brain.

For instance many British,US generals actually defended German commanders who shot partisans on sight

No they did not. USA was directly responsible for starving to death 1 MILLION German POWs while the english were responsible for killing 4 MILLION Indians by starvation.

Those that wage unprovoked wars of aggression should bear the full responsibility of the consequence of such war

You mean like the unprovoked Chinese occupation of Tibet?

It was dropped on military base in both hiroshima and nagasaki. It just that the explosion is too big.

You believe that?!!

. .
If the Japanese wouldn't have surrendered after the bombings how many of them would have died in the coming invasion ? Due to their fanaticism i'm pretty sure millions would have perished in banzai attacks for the Emperor.Add to this hundreds of thousands of dead Allied troops and that awfull decision kind of sounds the right one.

It's a war crime.. It killed civilians not once but twice.. And millions suffered decades after.. What was the necessity to bomb Nagasaki after three days ? If the war continued , It would'nt have because now it is well established that the imperial army was to surrender anyway.. It would have mainly been combatants not civilians.

Sometimes the blind servitude to anything American by the likes of you simply astonishes me.. Not even Americans are not like that anymore or even Chinese people who suffered the most by the Japanese

.
No, he means the unprovoked occupation of the northeast by Hindutva fascists.

The same northeast that was invaded by china?

The chinese are equally guilty of aggression like Japan. So why don't you keep civilians out of this?

It's not about blind servitutde,it's just that i don't see things through colored glasses 70 years later but in a logical and historically correct point of view.

The Americans waged a 4 years war against a ruthless enemy who carried a sneak attack against them.Countless US soldiers lost their lives in the Pacific theatre.Just a few months earlier they fought for Okinawa ,a small island. They fought over that island for 3 months. From the 110.000 or so Japanese soldiers defending it,a little over 7000 surrendered while the rest fought to the death defending every inch, even commiting themselves to banzai suicide attacks when all hope was lost. Now imagine that 100 fold worse if they had to fight for the Japanese mainland. How would you explain to the folks back home that you prefere to kill millions of your own when you have a powerfull weapon at your disposal,a weapon that could end it all in days ? There was no choice really. You could live in your fairy tale land,if i were the US president, knowing what i know today,i would do the same.

Hitler was responsible for the madness in Germany when he ordered the remains of his battered army filled with child soldiers and the old to fight ruining whatever was standing of German cities in the last months of the war,Tojo was responsible for not surrendering with the Allies at the gates.

My country surrendered with the Soviets at the gates an our amies routed alltough the Fuhrer ordered to fight for every centimetre of Romanian land.Well... "f&ck tthat" we said,it's easy to order people to die and their cities to burn for you, sometimes you need common sense,we're talking about nations, millions here, not pawns.So..."screw you Adolf,we surrender".

You see, when you tell the enemy that you'll fight to the last man in an ultimate, heroical last battle,it might just take your word on it and grant you your wish.

HIROSHIMA: While the US is still despised by many in Japan for refusing to apologise for the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bomb attack of 1945 which had killed 200,000 people, leaked US diplomatic cables paint an entirely different story, saying Obama in fact wanted to say sorry for the massacre during his 2009 official visit to Tokyo but the Japanese authorities had themselves stopped him from doing so.

According to leaked US diplomatic cables [as reported by The Japan Times], during his November 2009 official visit to Japan, President Barack Obama wanted to apologise to the people of Japan for dropping nuclear bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but the Japanese government had stopped him, saying: “No, you are not apologising for that”. The cable has quoted the then US Ambassador to Japan John Roos as telling the Obama administration that Japan doesn’t think it is a good idea for President Barack Obama to visit Hiroshima or to apologise for dropping atomic bombs on two Japanese cities during World War II.

In August 1945, the US had dropped two atomic bombs on Japan - one in Hiroshima and the other in Nagasaki. The first bombing killed over 140,000 people in Hiroshima while the second bombing on Nagasaki in southern Japan killed another 74,000 three days later. About 265,000 people survived the attack but the death toll had reached 269,446 since then because many of the survivors had later developed different illnesses from radiation exposure including cancer and liver diseases. The two bombings were the first and remain the only use of the nuclear weapons in wartime.

In 1963, a Tokyo court ruled that the dropping of atomic bombs was an act of hostility which was illegal under the rules of positive international law.

Sixty-five years after the US dropped ‘Little Boy’ on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, ending World War II and ushering in an era of nuclear dread, the Obama administration had sent its first delegation to Hiroshima in August 2010 to attend the annual ceremony to remember the Japanese who lost their lives in the bombing. While some Japanese hailed the presence of the US and other nuclear powers at the ceremony for the first time since 1945 as a sign of commitment to eventual nuclear disarmament, for others it was too little, too late. Some Japanese, including the mayor of Hiroshima still maintain that the US should have apologised for the bombing by now instead of still trying to justify the barbaric action while citing the 1941 Japanese air force attack on the US naval base in Pearl Harbour.

However, the leaked US diplomatic cables claim that before sending its first delegation to Hiroshima in August 2010, the Obama administration had discussed with the then Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Mitoji Yabunaka the US President’s desire to tender an apology for the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings when he visits Japan in November 2009.

US State Department under the direction of the then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had sent the Japanese a letter, saying that Obama wanted to apologise in person for the USA’s World War II bombing of Japan. President Obama wanted to present his apology from the United States in person and he wanted to do that despite opposition by senior officials in his administration who maintained that the Japanese were the ones who had attacked the US at Pearl Harbour.

However, according to the secret cable dated September 3, 2009, in response to the letter written under the direction of Hillary Clinton, the then Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Yabunaka maintained that both the governments must temper the public expectations on such issues, as the idea of President Barack Obama visiting Hiroshima to apologise for the atomic bombing during World War II was a non-starter. “While a simple visit to Hiroshima without fanfare is sufficiently symbolic to convey the right message, it is premature to include such programme in the November 2009 US presidential visit”, the Wiki Leaks reported.

The Japanese had actually feared that the American apology could be exploited by anti-nuclear groups and those opposed to the defensive alliance between Japan and the US who are now on friendly terms both politically and socially. It may be recalled that George Bush, while campaigning for the office of the president, had promised that he will never apologise for the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. “I don’t care what the facts are. But you heard that right. I will never apologise”, he had added in the same breath. However, as far as President Obama is concerned, he had bowed to the Japanese Emperor during his 2009 visit to Japan, something no American president had ever done.

At over six feet tall, the US president was photographed bending to nearly a 90 degree angle when he greeted the relatively diminutive Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

While the right-wing US media had criticised Obama, carrying banner headlines like “Obama bows before Japan’s emperor”, the Japanese media had praised him by stating that Obama has more of a true Japanese heart than most Japanese do.

The horrendous suffering of the Chinese and 300,000 deaths under Japanese occupation was justified by the two atomic bombs that killed over 200,000 Japanese civilians.

Not be childish. The Japan was nuked which had few relation with China. That's the conflict between Japan and America. After WWII, American took all Japanese sphere of influence in Asia-Pacific, from Korea to South East Asia. Japan and America had solved the historical problem by San Francisco conference. China didn't take part in the SF conference, so the conflict between China and Japan remained. The Japanese WWII Crime have not been solved between China and Japan.

In the Potsdam Declaration, they did give Japan chance to surrender, but Japan refused firmly.
Nowadays, China give the Japan chance to apologize, Japan refuse. Let's observe the trend in near future.

It takes them that long to surrender? How many bombs did it take them to surrender? The U.S. has been bombing civilians long before atomic weapons were created. They inflict more casualties and damage compare to the nukes.

Mate whatever the motivations or circumstances that were mentioned, It remains one of the worst crimes against humanity known, Something that was not necessary, Targeting not only mass murder of civilians but human suffering decades after.. What ever atrocities happened before nor after can legitimize the reasons for it

How about you give your own opinion as well. Will be interesting to know. :):D

What's your opinion of firebombing...since a Chinese member here is quoting posts making it sound like its an American invention. Tell us about British and German firebombing.

Oh and also they are insinuating the atom bomb was solely developed for Japan as the Allies wouldn't ever use an atomic weapon on another "white man" country. Tell us your opinion on that.

.
Most of your American allies still believe this was justified, because you are non-white, hence your people had to be the first guinea pig for the nuclear experiment.

Lool so now you are turning it into a race thing. Why im i noy surprised? Chinese and asians always playing the victimhood card. I thought you people had grown out of that, giving your growing size. But i guess i was wrong, old habits die hard.:D

So is it also because of race that the nazis germany considered other white races as inferior to them?:cheesy: Is it also because of race that Germany wanted to wipe out communist soviet Russia off the map(more than 20-25million russian perished fighting nazi germany. That was more than the population of many countries back then).lol. im sure that had Russia been an asian country, you would have been saying the same thing today about the evil white race trying to wipe out a poor innocent peaceful oriental country/race.

My man please the race card logic doesnt works at all in geo politics.if it did we will never have fought bloody wars for supremacy against each other in Europe i.e between France and Britain, Britain and Germany, britain and spain etc etc.

Do you even know why the U.S decided to use the bomb on Japan after nazi Germany was defeated? Thought you people knew that. Seems you still need alot of time to learn this. :bounce:

Well, thats exactly their logic my friend. They are playing the race card. They always think of themselves as poor victims being oppressed by the imperialistic devilish West(or white man.lol). Sometimes they sound like delusional Arabs/muslims(those who have lost hope) who blame everything that went wrong about them on the west(or white man if you want.lol)

He's so delusional he thinks the Manhattan Project (which was started in 1939) was for a future weapon to use against Japan. Even though obvious evidence shows Einstein had tipped off Roosevelt that the NAZIS were building a bomb and that's why it was started.

The only reason it wasn't used in Europe was because the war there ended in May 1945 just before the first successful atomic test in July.
