I am going to put forward a question to you guys:

Q) Was the procurement of the J-10C fighter aircraft more important than providing advanced military equipment for security forces fighting non-state actors, and foreign proxies in Balochistan? What are the strategic implications of ignoring the foot soldiers in that region? (10 marks) [Extra credit will be given to those who curse the establishment higher ups in an unrestrained manner]

The reason J10 acquisition is more important is because it is needed to deter against a near-peer adversary that wants to try cross-border incursions as coercive tactics.

This cannot be allowed as the implications for negligence or ceding space are far more adverse for us as an independent nation than fighting and losing manpower to terrorism. Think Syria and Turkey as examples and things become quite clear.

Also, this should not be a one or the other type of a choice. Both are needed. But Pakistan will never allow itself to be cowed down by India insha'Allah.

I don’t see finances being a major limitation to procurements.
1) Nurol Ejder cost around half a million bucks a piece. 200 a years would cost 100 million. Nothing we couldn’t manage. We expressed interest in Turkish armoured vechiles back in 2015. Had we just procured 200 a year we would have had 1400 till now. Giving every IBO and patrol team of not only PA but also FC a safe ride.
2) a better assault rifle- we don’t need to equip the entire army. For starters just those deployed on the western border would have been enough. We could have procured them off the self. 100,000 rifles 1000 dollars a pop is only 100 million.
3) thermal optics and NSV. No doubt that would be expensive equipping the troops. But we could equip each squad atleast with two.


I honestly think PA is hesitant to change from static defence to mobile patrols because of the cost associated with it.

We needed the J10. If your trying to highlight what we could have cut off to pay for COIN the VT4 should be at the top. We could have delayed that.

25 units doesn’t warrant domestic production/assembly, not enough for economies of scale, would in fact cost more to be domestically produced/assembled in such low numbers.

If we go for a larger order, we most certainly will.

Until and unless ISR and ELINT capabilities do not mature, be ready for lifting hundreds of these janazas. Put the money where the mouth is. In asymmetric warfare, you can prevent only by being proactive in denying militants the time and space to operate. Require a high operational momentum on the intelligence's part. I leave it to you to analyze how competent ours is. Never forget what one of the most successful Generals of his generation who fought this asymmetric conflict (Gen. Tariq Khan) said about never getting intelligence from ISI/MI, etc. You can further analyze why money(focus in this respect) is not put where the mouth is.

I dont know what to say anymore. Sometimes i wonder how JCOs, NCOs and regular soldiers feel when they hear such tragic news, and our response, or lack of it.
