ASTRA BVR-Air-to-Air Missiles was tested successfully from Su-30MKI by the Indian Air Force from a naval range off Goa. The launch conducted on 20th Jun 2014 from over 6 km altitude was a control and guidance flight which successfully demonstrated interception of an electronically simulated target at long range. Both, tests, today's test and earlier launch on 09th June 2014 conducted to demonstrate the aerodynamic characteristics of the missile, have demonstrated the repeatability, robustness and endurance capability of Astra BVR-AAM as a weapon system.

Good development. Our own BVR missile is coming.

What is the range of Astra?

Specification chart would be appreciated.

Pakistan Air Force is armed with following BVR missiles

india needs to increase its BVR capacity to match the PAF airpower in the region. Good to see india going in right direction...

Good lord! Do you really believe all that?
Do you even think that the Astra is IAF's first BVR missile? :azn: :D

are you serious or just joking? Anyway It was funny to compare PAF firepower with that of IAF's.

match PAF airpower.................:omghaha:
Dude we had Russian BVRAAMs for more than a decade..

Memories are short in some quarters OR Ignorance is rife.
One needs to only recall 1999 when the PAF had to sit on the side-lines; just 'twiddling its thumbs' while the IAF was flying hundreds of sorties and why that happened....and what was the connection to BVR capabilities or the lack of it....

Astra, India's indigenous AAM has a range of 80 Kms better than Chinese SD-10B(70 Km).

RVV-AE(more than 2000 pcs) has range of 150 Kms( in head on) better than Aim-120 C-5(500 pcs) 105 Km..yes Aim 120 C-5 has much better ECCM capabilities on the account of being much more recently developed.

This guy has a capability to eradicate bureaucratic hurdle and make Babus responsible and work hard. He can make sluggish bureaucracy responsible and result oriented and goal oriented.

No Man you are not right. India will need at least 10 decades to reach where Pakistan is today. DO not over estimate India's capability.

You should consider a new profession or a hobby..ur pathetic at trolling
IAF was BVR capable when your prized f16s were carrying sidewinders

Let me walk you through the various BVR missiles India, IAF and IN are familiar with.

R27 alamos:The one on the inner pylon. The others are training rounds of the WVR r73

Super 530D/:The one with the white color for the seeker section. The grey one behind is a fuel tank

MICA:Note both the RF and IR seeker versions. The missiles are whitish in color. DO not mistake the fuel tanks as missiles

R77:The one beside the silver thing marked as brahmos. That silver this is also a missile. But not air to air.

Agreed that AIM-120C is the deadliest missile in sub-continent among all. But totally disagree on India being inferior in BVR missiles and types. India uses about half a dozen BVR missiles and they've got very good experience around integrating and using BVR missiles. In fact, Pakistan needs to catch up on it and introduce some newer and more advance versions outside of just AIM-120 C and SD-10 series, and in large numbers
