Looked it up again, could be true, could not be. One media says it struck on 30th dec, another media says taliban denies any truce

Taliban attack with IEDs rockets and suicide attacks. Americans attack with helicopters and drones Taliban fighters are safe as long as Americans don't know their location

Afghanistan is a box full of opportunities to harm the US colonists. Many possible scenarios could be worked out with taliban and even other parties (and even let them become new government instead of the puppet government now)

You are right, this iran issue can open up more options for taliban. The taliban can refrain for attacking US installations, this will give taliban a political legitimacy and a view as being independent. They can also decide to press on and make America run away from Afghanistan. It would depend on what happens to this iran US issue.

If both options have the same outcome of ousting US troops (without signing a long term agreement for them to come back or any of that), then it's good.
