320 million people in India, China to come out of poverty by 2015: UN

It doesn't matter if someone has a mobile phone or cable TV the definition of Poverty by the UN Does not take into account such things but access to clean water, healthcare education and daily wage (widely used <$1/day is poverty line).

This news is much welcomed, 2020 will see much change. And yes, you do have to give credit to GOVT- BILLIONS have been allocated for spending on such infrastructure. More could be done- but that's always the case. now it is a case of managing the gap between the rich and poor, but I'm optimistic this will happen automatically over time as their is a "filter down" effect. Hopefully a greater culture of philanthropy will develop as, right now, this is very much lacking among the rich in india as compared with much of the rest of the world- I see positive steps being taken though:

. . .
This would be a good achievement if it is a reality. It is almost equal to USA's population!!

.
most of the people who supposedly are under the BPL are falsifying their status to receive more benefits . for example one of the bai who works at my home get 2k from us and she also works in about 5 other houses for the same amount . yet she is considered below the poverty line.

.
Not surprised at all considering the near double-digit GDP growth rates of both countries and their billion-plus populations.

With fast-growing huge-population Asian countries like Bangladesh and Indonesia, the future is looking bleak for poverty in Asia.

.
do you know in my village (i won't tell the name) , even well off people show themselves below poverty line just to get the subsidized food grains and other commodities and I am sure its a common practice all over India.

My dads driver he gets around about 4500 rs a month lives in the out house food is free for him as all the servants in my house get yet he has bpl card

South Asia is one of the most unfortunate region, it would be great to see zero poverty figure in this region and perhaps whole Asia :)
