29 Taliban, 25 soldiers killed in Afghan border clash

First and foremost, our condolences go out to the friends and families of the brave soldiers who lost their lives in this cross border incursion. Our nations continue to pay the highest price in fighting terrorism. We’ve already lost thousands of brave soldiers in fighting these terrorists on both sides of the border. It only makes sense for us to work together and negate the threat posed by these terrorists. We restate what Richard Hoagland, the charge d ’affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, said recently: “In this dangerous world where terrorists can strike at any moment, we must all work together – Pakistanis and Americans alike – because we have a strong mutual interest in defeating terrorism.”

Sorry Sir , but i am not Satisfied with this statement .
There are so many questions unanswered , One of them being , why are these terrorists not engaged On the other side of the border , when they are fleeing to Afganistan ?

My bad.

Any news what happened after the incident i mentioned? Were the peaks captured afterwards?

They were . Some Causalities were suffered , but they were taken back. The Attack we repelled .

The Pakistani military said it killed 29 Taliban fighters on Wednesday in the final stage of an operation aimed at forcing hundreds of insurgents back across the border into Afghanistan.

Soldiers used artillery, helicopter gunships and fighter jets against the insurgents, accused of beheading 17 Pakistani soldiers in June.

The battle was the culmination of weeks of operations in the remote valleys of the Batwar area of Bajaur tribal agency near the border. It highlighted once again the difficulty of preventing insurgents from crossing the border to launch attacks or flee from Pakistani or Nato forces bolstering the Afghan government.

Holy smokes!

Artillery, gunships, fighter jets?! What the fcuk were the PA fighting? Soviet Union?

I just don't understand how come you guys don't fence your border.

Everytime these loonies always keep shuttling from Pakistan to Afghanistan and back as if they own both the countries.

Why not unilaterally fence the damn border? It is not like you need NATO's clearance for that as it is a standard international border.

This maybe a hard decision due to the Pushtun border communities but it is better than dying soldiers.

Maybe you need to visit the area sometime.

Fencing the border there is not really a feasible option.

1- The area is too hilly, and the terrain gives difficulty in putting up the fence on a huge border in the first place. Sulaiman range and HinduKush run through the ******* border.

2- The effective patrolling is also a problem. Erecting outposts along the area. The problem is that it is aling Afghanistan, from where the TTP and other baddies can come in hordes at will, so you also have to have a sufficient compliment of men at the post.

Then the local problem. Alot of things are needed to be kept in mind.

When 500 men cross at once, a mere fence can't stop them.

The best cooperation between Pakistani and American forces will be to seal their sides of the border...
Although i find it strange that while Drones don't ever miss much smaller targets..Drones always miss hoards of Taliban ganging up inside Afghanistan and the crossing border to Attack Pakistan Army...

Btw where is Major Nevers?

I am very familiar with your terrain there because I myself belong to a Himalayan state that borders another country (China). But there must be better alternatives from around the world that have mountainous borders.

1- The area is too hilly, and the terrain gives difficulty in putting up the fence on a huge border in the first place. Sulaiman range and HinduKush run through the ******* border.

THen how about border management systems? There has to be some form of surveillance. And I am sure that PA has the means to monitor borders but if all of that is focused on our side, how do you plan to monitor your more notorious border?

2- The effective patrolling is also a problem. Erecting outposts along the area. The problem is that it is aling Afghanistan, from where the TTP and other baddies can come in hordes at will, so you also have to have a sufficient compliment of men at the post.

What about drones? Artillery synched with camera feed on active drones with laser guidance should be good enough alternate.

Flying surveillance drones that can laser guide smart artillery shells should be a good alternate. If not that at least UAVs can provide vital intel on someone attempting to cross border, keeping your forces ready to tackle them
Then the local problem. Alot of things are needed to be kept in mind.

Are you telling me that mini-armies of terrorists cross the border armed just like that?

That must be some scene eh?

Where are these guys getting weapons? How do they find place to train people, when we have best surveillance equipment in that part of world.

Even though the causalities are highly doubtful , people here need to keep in mind that Pakistan Army is dealing with an enemy whose only objective is to " not lose " ...

My Question is , How The HELL can the flee ?? What are NATO forces doing on the other side of the border , Smoking Weed ???

Talk about Hypocrisy , and they tell us to do More.

this is an issue we've brought up with them MANY a time.

unfortunately they've been deaf dumb and mute about it.

at any rate, many more of these lizard eaters who want to fight Pakistan and terrorize our population in FATA and elsewhere will meet their Creator

how can a bunch of yaboos always inflict such heavy casualties on a trained army?
Read the whole article. It's a misleading headline: the 29 Taliban dead are from a single incident, the 25 soldiers dead are from the entire multi-week operation which killed 120 militants.

Zionists like me have learned to distrust Reuters' headlines, for when reporting the conflict between Israelis and Palestinian Arabs the headline may blame the Israelis while the article content reveals the Arabs are at fault.

When I challenged one reporter, Allyn Fisher-Ilan, she laimed the headline was fine, an example of "balanced" reporting. It looks like Israel is not alone; Pakistan is now experiencing Reuters idea of "balance" as well!

Good these thugs should be wiped out from PAK NORTH, so our people can live in peace.

I say secretly Bomb the hell out of them in Afghanistan too if they try to escape

Pakistan cannot do this alone. We have to involve the only other organized force in the region; the Americans can really change the game, if involved, in such operations. The Afghanis on the other hand have proved useless; between the fear generated by the Taliban and their shifting allegiances, we cannot rely on them.

The death of valuable and brave men in such operations do little to thwart the extremist war machine. More than likely, those we killed will be turned into martyrs to motivate the next generations of extremist. I have often said, education and infrastructure is the only way forward, but considering those things are barely available in the urban areas, we may be asking for too much. If trying to bludgeon the enemy is the way forward, then we have to be able to form them into bigger groups by cornering them from both sides of the border and force them into the kind of conventional combat the Pakistani Army is comfortable with. If we can't develop our own infrastructure, then at the least we can destroy theirs'. But none of this will happen if the US and Pakistan operate as two separate entities, all the while their goals, objectives, and enemies are theoretically the same.

These operations need to be planned in advance, keeping the relevant from party across the border in confidence so that the extremists can't just shuttle back and forth. US-Pak relations aren't at their highest point today, but I can't comprehend the idea that the lives of the soldiers on both sides are less valuable than political wrangling.

I can't write a post on this topic and not bring up education multiple times so why change now; the Americans will leave eventually, then the border regions will fall into even greater chaos. If we want a solution, we must prevent people from feeling the need to give up their lives for a misguided cause. Give these people education and infrastructure and peace; if they have heaven on earth, they won't need to go looking for it in the after life.

PAF Pilot --

a concerted effort by Pakistan Government must also be made; COAS made this clear during inauguration of the Rehabilitation Center for extremist/militants in need of "reintegration" into society

but they waste time on other petty issues and political infighting - focus is lost on what's MOST important to Pakistan.

this is a war we WILL win but definitely not overnight.
