Tipu's_Tiger_with_keyboard_on_display_2006AH4168.jpg

Tipu's Tiger is an 18th-century automaton or mechanical toy created for Tipu Sultan, the ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore in India. The carved and painted wood casing represents a tiger savaging a near life-size European man. Mechanisms inside the tiger and man's bodies make one hand of the man move, emit a wailing sound from his mouth and grunts from the tiger. In addition a flap on the side of the tiger folds down to reveal the keyboard of a small pipe organ with 18 notes.

The tiger was created for Tipu and makes use of his personal emblem of the tiger and expresses his hatred of his enemy, the British of the East India Company.

This hero deserves much more.

A painting of 1780 Anglo Mysore War fought between British and Hyder Ali is displayed at NASA which in turn has recognized Tipu Sultan & his father Hyder Ali as pioneers of modern rocket technology.

May Allah bless those that brought islam to India and those that defended it there.
Today Pakistan is carrying the Banner of Islam in South Asia and i am confident Pakistan will not let it fall.

El Fatiha for tipu sultans soul.

The Mysore rocket

The first iron-cased and metal-cylinder rocket artillery, made from iron tubes, were developed by the weapon suppliers of Tipu Sultan his father Hyder Ali, in the 1780s. Tipu Sultan championed the use of mass attacks with rocket brigades within the army, and he wrote a military manual on it, the Fathul Mujahidin. He successfully used these metal-cylinder rockets against the larger forces of the British East India Company during the Anglo-Mysore Wars. The Mysore rockets of this period were much more advanced than what the British had seen, chiefly because of the use of iron tubes for holding the propellant; this enabled higher thrust and longer range for the missile (up to 2 km range). The effect of these weapons on the British during the Second, Third and Fourth Mysore Wars in 1792 was sufficiently impressive to inspire the British to develop their own rocket designs. Several Mysore rockets were sent to England, who then took an active interest in the technology and developed it further during the 19th century.
Although the technique was familiar to Europeans from the 17th century their use fell out of favor until the late 18th century, when Indian forces from Mysore led by Tipu Sultan invented iron rockets for use as rocket artillery against British forces in battle, which led to the British development of the Congreve rocket.Ironically, the technology of metal-cylinder missiles developed by Tipu Sultan contributed to the defeat of his ally Napoleon in the Battle of Waterloo.

Some of those rockets are kept in the British meuseum. Its our legacy, which Pakistan and India must bring back.
Vijay Mallya paid for and brought back his sword, which the Brits had to pry out of his cold, dead hands. Unlike his mentor Napoleon who surrendered and was exiled, Tipu died with the sabre in his hands.

BTW, he died on May 4th, not 5th. You are a day late in creating this thread.

Thanks, that was very informative. We need to bring back our stolen legacy items.

It is also a fact that english women used to terrify their kids by taking the name of Tipu.

the PTV drama on Tipu was a great show..
